pixie
Why Because the law takes a dim view and a chap got fined that amount some time ago.

chrispti
Because the law takes a dim view and a chap got fined that amount some time ago. ''The law takes a dim view'' doesn't matter what view the law have, if no laws were broken its got nothing to do with them. The chap got fined for shooting a woody with an airgun in his garden did he Depends on the reason as to why he shot it . . . . . if he was fined then he obviously didn't have a clue and deserved it
wy111
Wife is wise, £1000 fine if caught Above, cobblers. Shot taken downwards from window, perfectly legal, no projectile leaving boundary.
barney 66
probably to do with general licence rules
wy111
probably to do with general licence rules Theoretically, so is roost shooting, but has anyone being "done", through the general licence? To my knowledge,NO!

Not my rules mate, only answering a question above as to why they say it is illegal, although where i roost shoot there are crops right next to the wood so still crop protection

barney 66
From what i have read about this on here and other forums and internet it is all about the judges interpretation of the law on the day, doesn't seem to be a definate right or wrong, not from what ive read anyway, others may see it differently. sitsinhedges
Leave the damned thing alone and enjoy seeing a bit of wildlife in your garden, you don't have to kill every living thing
ack-ack
I get quite gay about the pigeons in my garden. Theres a pair that have been resident for yonks. If I've been shooting local fields I'm always really pleased to see them come back to roost of an evening. They stopped out late one evening and I was convinced that I'd greased them. When they flew in I was overjoyed

Fisherman Mike
Its got nothing to do with whether the Bird is a pest species under the general licence or not or how you interpret it... Luring any wild bird to your garden with bird feed and then shooting it is an offence under the wildlife and countryside act and the RSPCA and RSPB will always attempt to force a prosecution in this case. Thats how the CPS interpret the law. If the bird is dipping down to eat your sprouts or raiding the chicken feed thats fair game. Why take the risk. Your Missus is very sensible as well as compassionate. Edited March 6, 2012 by Fisherman Mike
Good shot?
I agree, leave the woodies in your garden alone, but shoot the Magpies. Pigeons in my garden are nearly as big as chickens.
