Only1cliff
Hi all, well ive been browsing the site for a while now, so thought it would be rude not to post. Ive just had my interview today for my sgc, so all being well its just a matter of waiting for it to drop through the door. Obviously im not ready to buy my gun yet, and i will be trying as many out as possible before i buy to get on that fits me best, but i was wondering if its the same as buying a car for example you can knock the dealer down on the price and ask for things to be thrown in with the deal, like gun slips or cartridges? Or is the price advertised pretty fixed?
dan-250
You can do that by all means, remember you can always walk away, it's only worth the amount your willing to pay. Knocks, scratches, pitting all bring the price down. Haggle abit if you don't think the price is fair, it would be rude not to, when I sell something I expect the buyer to haggle, it's the rules of private sale and cash is always the best option. Sharpshooter.123
It's pretty fixed to be fair, dealers don't make hardly anything on cartridges and the chance of getting stuff thrown in free is quite slim but my gun shop knows me so I get a little off everything now
HDAV
Haggle away, just make sure its the right gun for you at the right price. IT's not like going to Tesco or M&S, and particularly on a new gun you can get things thrown in with sale such as a slip or other accessories. Wharf Rat
If you put your location, people could point you towards a proper gunsmith/gunshop. Fit is the most important thing. Either take a friend who knows his/her stuff, or go to a shop that you can trust. Remember that you can have a gun altered to fit if you really like it, a decent shop could advise you on that too. Stanners
I was set on a particular make/model of gun, then after a while of trawling guntrader realised I was unlikely to be able to afford that one. I took a punt and emailed a gunshop selling exactly what I wanted telling them I could only afford X, and they said 'OK we'll do that price, but we won't take any more off' - that was a £200 reduction. I didn't get any freebies after that though... Moral of the tale is, always worth asking.
humperdingle
Do a bit of research on the guns you're after. Guntrader and Gunstar are ideal sites for giving you a huge range of guns, and their range of prices. Above all, it should fit you. There is always some scope for shaving a few quid off the price of a gun, or at least getting something chucked in. If you know an average price for a gun, though, it gives you a good idea. Hi my location is in Northamptonshire, Two shops that ive been in for a look around have been Northampton gun and rugby Gun shop. And ive been having some lessons at Sporting targets in Risley. Im in no rush to buy yet, and i will be looking to try a good selection out first, but was just wondering about the flexibility when purchasing a gun. Thanks everyone for your responces, they have been helpful, i will keep you updated with my progress.
HDAV
I bought mine from rugby and got a bit of a deal, barby sporting is worth a visit, they let me take 2 guns from the shop to barby and shhot them both until I decided which I preferred great service and decent pricing (they were used guns) Edited March 5, 2012 by HDAV

You are in exactly the same position as me, I could copy and paste your post and stick my name at the bottom! There is also the gun cupboard at Castle Ashby. His website isn't linked to guntrader so best to pop in for an idea on prices. I'm waiting on certificate (4 weeks to go out of a total of 8) and then cash in hand before spending too much time in the rfd's. I've found the guys to be excellent at the rfd's you've mentioned. Will be spending a lot of time in the Northants clay grounds this summer

cant hit rabbits 123
I have not yet bought or sold a gun without either myself or the buyer haggling, usually dropping the price, once or twice having 50 cartridges or a cheap slip in with the deal. Ask what the seller is willing to let it go at.
