fox tracks in dew

Recommended Posts

Yesterday morning (through being up all night with back pain and unable to lay down), i decided to go out to a local farm for a walk to take my mind off the pain and excercise. I got there about half 5, no gun just a thumbstick and waited for dawn to arrive. I made my way to a field where foxes cross regular and just watched. When it was light enough to see well, i noticed my footprints in the heavy dew. I never seen a fox, but did notice a track going across to where i know something is travelling through a five bar gate, but there was no "footprints" just a narrow trail, like as if someone was dragging a stick or rope behind themselves.

Was this a fox ?, too light to leave footprints but dragging his tail.

depends really, how long was the grass judging buy your width estimate i would say a fox badgers are wider and lower to the ground and tend to leave a wider trail but as said before when you see fox prints in the ground when the snow is laying they are one in front of the other,is this a well used path you've stumble across or a one off??

The gate i know is a well used run (it goes into a rough field and onto a wood), it started off coming through the hedge where upon inspection it was obvious something had used it. I think it could only be a fox's tail, but although the dew was really heavy there seemed no disturbance from the feet.

The grass is quite short.

I've googled tracks in dew, but nothing definite comes up.
