oilyrag
Just wondering if it is normal to see some minor damage on the brass face/lip of spent carts after they have been through a semi? I don't normally pay that much attention to used carts but in a moment of boredom I noticed most that I had in my pocket had a tiny portion of their brass lip damaged from what I imagine is the extractor claw? Gun in question is a Maxus and cycles anything from Comp X's through to Max Game BB's flawlessly. Thanks.
M.I.A
I found that with a hatsan escort I had, it would leave a dent when the ejector hit the brass
Pointer
Different manufacturers of shotgun shells most definitely use differing qualities of materials. As a rule of thumb, the more expensive and quality tgt load will have a high brass content in its base, whilst the cheaper pigeon loads will have a much lower brass content to keep the costs down. The low brass carts are more likely to be marked during the extraction process.

Thats interesting all the Steel wildfowling loads i use have steel bases coated gold, even though some are about £1 a pop. Is it just higher priced clay loads that still use brass? EdSolomons
No one uses brass its all one step above scrap. The height of the brass is only there to con the gullible into paying another £25/1000!!
Catweazle
They're plated steel, not brass. My Beretta makes a tiny dent in the side too.
vampire
My mossberg clips the carts when spent.
dan-250
It doesn't make the mark pulling them out, it makes the mark when there put in the chamber, and the claw smacks into and goes over the lip. Or that's what mine does anyways

oilyrag
Thanks for the replies. Just had another look, and as dan-250 points out it does look to be caused by the action slamming shut on the face of the cart. For some strange reason it's more noticable on the Comp X's. Maybe they use softer steel in their 'brasses'?
cant hit rabbits 123
I've seen auto's eject spent cartridges with little bits of brass missing, peeled off bits of plastic from the case, dents and in one case a seriously deformed base, although that was more likely a production fault in the catridge. I think its just the speed and multiple impacts on the cartridge from parts such as the ejector and slightly off centre cartridges being fed into the chamber when cycling through an auto that causes such marks
