tweedledee
Any engineer good on a lathe could do it. Best re crowning mate. What would the point of an inaccurate gun be?

Dekers
My local gunsmith just charged me £45 including re-proof for a centerfire rifle. Cut, crown, thread, proof? Did they do all that for £45?

MiLisCer
Cut, crown, thread, proof? Did they do all that for £45? Yep - the re-proof was at the same time as fitting a Mod - he includes the cost of proofing in the cost of his mods. He is a real gunsmith - does all the work onsite. Mike I'm not with you, are you saying he charged you extra for a mod because it was proofed, and included the proof on the rifle? Proof for a single rifle at Birmingham is over £30, and that has no allowance for any carriage charges, there are discounts for multiple proof at the same time. So I still don't understand how any RFD can CUT, THREAD, CROWN, PROOF for £45, if they have any desire to stay in business?

MiLisCer
I rather think that Miliscer is somewhat confused over what has actually been proved. Nope - not confused at all. 26" Barrel cut down to 19" - threaded for me, re-crowned - thread protector made to fit - cost £45 - bought a NEW Mod at the same time - gun fitted with Mod - sent to proof - NO EXTRA CHARGE for this service, apart from COST of MOD - not hard to understand!! MiLisCer, I think it could help if you were a little more forthcoming, what Mod at what price? I can't help thinking you actually paid more than £45 for this service, if this did actually add up to £45 it was an exceptional deal! Ok, I'll put my hand up for moving this thread a little off topic, but this is taking it way further off, and has been debated and argued at great length!
