Lloyd90
Got a job working abroad for about 6 months and have just got a 14AH Lithium Battery, will just tuck it away until I get back but a little concerned if anything will happen to it from not being used for such a long time ? cheers
cooter
If it goes completely flat the plates can fall apart. If it's new charge it fully before you leave, stand it upright, and it should last six months, but it does depend on the internal resistance. Lloyd90
Get a optimate charger my motorbike battery is plugged in November till mid march and never lost a battery yet in 15yrs whats it do ? The charger it comes with has an over charge protector, might be better to just leave it plugged in ? Or might leave it with my mate and just get him to plug it in for an hour every 2 weeks or so lol

Rimfireboy
Mine's been left for over six months, just checked it and the lamp is still bright. First time I've looked at it since last year. My spare battery appears to be flat though. Going to charge it tomorrow. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.
steve_b_wales
All my batteries are connected to trickle chargers when not in use. They keep the battery in top condition, and use very little electricity. I bought mine from Ebay for less than a fiver each.
paul87
Get a digital timer plug like the ones in the link below, plug your charger and battery into it and set it to come on for 1hr or whatever a week to keep the battery topped up. I have the 2nd one down but it can only be set to be programmed for 2 on off times daily (you can pick what days) where as others have more comprehensive programming. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=digital%20timer%20plug&hl=en&safe=active&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbo=u&tbm=shop&source=og&sa=N&tab=if I used one when I went on Holiday for a week and needed my Lizards tank lights to come on in the morning and turn off at night. It was so good i still use it now all the time to have consistant on and off times. By the way i had a friend call round to feed it but having the timer meant he only needed to call once a day rather than 2 or 3 times and didn't have to worry about the lights. I got a cheap one from Asda for £5 and never had any bother with it, never even heated up at all. the only thing you would need to be careful of is the plug shape and the shape of the timer you get. If the plug protrudes to the top you would have to make sure you buy a flat faced one. Hope this is of use to you Paul Edited March 27, 2012 by paul87
