ging125
Just wondering what the consensus is? Do you remove the mod for short and long term storage? I have been hearing mixed messages!! I know to remove them for centre fire just not sure for rimfire! Thanks in advance1

Scully
Only time comes off the rimmie is for cleaning, then goes straight back on.Centre-fire one comes off ASAP after use.
apache
Same as ^ leave on rimfire, take off CF
Blunderbuss
I always remove. When you bring them into a warm house, condensation can form inside and mix with the firing residue forming a weak acid which can over time attack the muzzle crown. 12borejimbo
Take off my centrefire, even though it has a stainless barrel and stainless mod, spray some wd40 in and lay it on the AGA overnight, but I always leave my rimfire one on! Blunderbuss
Could somebody explain the logic to me, of removing from a centre fire but not a rimfire?
bedwards1966
I leave my .22lr mod on, but many seem to say that .17 HMR's and centre-fire's get filthy and full of condensation and that therefore it's best to remove them prior to storage to avoid the bore and crown rusting. I suppose that for the few seconds it takes to unscrew them and put them back on it's probably not a bad thing to do.
