Beretta28g
OK, so I have decided that i am going to need to upgrade my waterproof clothes collection for the coming season. It will be used while wildfowling, and other outdoor activities including deer stalking. MUST BE WATERPROOF. Budget is not too important as i have got quite a while to buy/look round for the good deals. As i see it the options are: Rivers West Eider Jacket Rivers West Jacket Bib Overalls Deerhunter Montana Jacket and Trousers Deerhunter Daytona Jacket and Trousers The thing that puts me off Deerhunter is, on the Ram i currently have, the pockets are in front of the waterproof membrane so everything in the pockets gets soaked. Is it like this for all Deerhunters? Also whats the rivers West like as i have no experience of these? Moors Man
Have got Rivers West Ranger Trousers and are Jarrett jacket. They are brilliant. The only deerhunter clothing I have had is the reversible fleece and the "build quality" shall be say is very poor compared with the Rivers West gear. Some of my son's mates at Sparsholt say the Rivers West Kentdale is fantastic as well. Edited April 30, 2012 by Moors Man

Beretta28g
With the rivers west does stuff in the pockets get wet?
huffhuff
Have you looked at Swanndri from New Zealand I do like the swanni stuff. But, the older gear is better. It's made in china now and lost some quality. Good stuff though.

P~MX
Rivers West for me too, it's the softest most comfortable shooting coat I've ever owned, and how can you beat a 10 year water proof warranty ! anythin with Goretex on the label should keep you dry too. Harnser
I have a rivers west cammo jacket that I brought back from the states . Its the one that was trialled by one of the American shooting mags and was given the best jacket of all times award . I have had many jackets over the years and this rivers west one is the warmest ,most waterproof jacket I have ever owned . Only one small criticism ,the zipper seems a bit on the light weight side and I dont think it will last out the 10 year waterproof warranty . Harnser . Wildfowler12
Try the Jarrett instead of the Eider. I think you'll be impressed.
chrispti
I bought a deerhunter jacket and trousers about 5 years ago, being around the ''mid price'' range, I thought / hoped, it would see me through a few seasons wildfowling at the very least.... and, it did, and I still use it. Has never leaked and has been worn out on the marsh in the worst weather. The flap on the main cartridge pockets only just covers the pocket and there are no drain holes, so I have never used them. All the other pockets have been fine, keep my wallet, phone, licence etc in them and they have remained dry. Heard nothing but good reports on Harkila, a few people have referred to Rivers West as ''Rivers Sweat'' as apparently they are not very breathable. Think I will invest in some Harkila gear IF or when my Deerhunter stuff gives up

Beretta28g
OK, thanks for the relpies. Narrowed it down slightly. Can anyone tell me with the Deerhunter Montana if the pockets are waterproof? Does the Eider have big cartridge pockets or do you have to use the detachable shell holder? How does this set up look? http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/204af198d74cadd772156896/DEERHUNTER+Montana+5+in+1+Jacket/ or http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/224af02b8ea83fd493658006/DEERHUNTER+Montana+5+in+1+Camo+Jacket/ Bit worried as i was told that with some of the early cammo versions the water proofing wasn't all it might be? http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/134c923d1c1f091203971707/DEERHUNTER+Rusky+Overalls/ again are the cammo gonna be as waterproof? http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/154c923a5ef1345788657968/DEERHUNTER+Rusky+Camo+Overalls/ What do you guys think of this setup? I like the overalls as they will protect the lower back where i always get cold. Do you think this set up would be good for wildfowling in the winter? Cheers
HW682
OK, thanks for the relpies. Narrowed it down slightly. Can anyone tell me with the Deerhunter Montana if the pockets are waterproof? I have the Montana. The pockets are not waterproof because the goretex style membrane (deertex) is a separate removeable layer - such that all the pockets are outside of it. jbundy
I have the Montana. The pockets are not waterproof because the goretex style membrane (deertex) is a separate removeable layer - such that all the pockets are outside of it. I also have the montana really waterproof but pockets are not and soak up all the water like a sponge,i would reccomend the rivers west eider jacket amazing bit of kit
