Fisherman Mike
Had dinner last night with a guy who has just retired from 20 years of Weather research for the World Meteorological Research programme. Doesnt look good chaps... the continual trend in the positional shift of the NAD and the Jet Stream caused predominatley by melting pole caps, pollution and atmospheric Ozone depletion means that our Weather system is going to get progressivley worse in the coming decades. "We will still be a temperate climate and have seasonal weather but the seasons will be less defined with long spells of summer sunshine becoming rarer and rarer. The Early spring months will become the sunniest and heavy rain will dominate the traditional sunny months of June July and August. Indian summers will become the norm with September becoming the warmest month. Within 100 year Britain particularly the West Coast will be one of the wetest countries in the world"...even wetter than Manchester..... Something to look forward to... Oh and by the way hes off to retire in Australia..... Forgot to mention he wrote that article over 50 years ago :o Edited June 22, 2012 by Fisherman Mike
Vipa
Thanks for that Mike... interesting.. Personally I would prefer to live in a much more defined climate, the kind my relatives in Canada enjoy.. Very warm sunny summers (not scorching hot) and VERY cold snowy winters with an incredibly short autumn & spring as a transition. BUT.... From a global resource standpoint, the most valuable resource on our rock floating in space is liquid water, not oil or gold or iron... without water we have no life at all so, from that point of view, at least we should be safe from the ensuing global water shortage! Spaniel
Obviously the weather was going to change as i brought a new tent, which is still sat in its bag yet to be used Looking at the positives, great Wildfowling weather on its way
Bionic Man
Yep, there will be no need to go to the coast for wildfowling... if it carries on raining the coast will be in my garden here in Leicester
Ben 990
Looking at the positives, great Wildfowling weather on its way Yea but probably not during the season tho lol. Seams to be the trend in recent years.
Frenchieboy
I'm not sure that it could get any worse than it is at the moment! Looking out of our front window right now it can only be described as a "torrential monsoon"! Driving up to the poultry farm this morning the road, which is usually quite good at draining in or after heavy rains) couldn't cope and had about 6 inches of standing water on it with an incredible amount draining on to it from the surrounding hills. KW Its not just weather forecasting though. The weather has been recorded for centuries and as such trends and cycles are there to be seen. Those in the know are giving us a heads up and we all ignore it. The El Nino effect can't be ignored now for instance.

Combine this with data gleaned from the ice cores and **** like that and a pretty solid picture emerges. I have only moderate faith in day to day weather predictions but when you have hundreds of years worth of records to look back on trends and cycles emerge. Add to that the effect of millions of acres of concrete, millions of gallons / tons of fossil fuels being burnt etc. It's got bad news written all over it. Mungler
Mike my Uncle told me everything you said 20 years ago. He's a mad genius. I didn't get all of it either then or now, but he said that if the jet stream died (which he said it would) then the nearest place to get sustained weather would be Maderia.
