chrisjpainter
I'm thinking about trying out some heavier pellets for my sub 12 .177. obviously a heavier pellet is going to help with limiting the problems with wind, but also drop the FPS rate.My question is, is it worth doing? If you do, which ones would you recommend? Crosman? H&N? anything else?
Guest cookoff013
bismags are usually only good with pcps. h&n magnums are the same pellet. honestly, is it actually worth the change? loopy trajectory, with minimal power gain. i have used them to great effect. but my theoben ran very well with them. i then changed over to h&n ftt`s as the pellet of choice. i run springers now, so thats the pellet of choice. if you have a pcp, give them a go, the barrel tightness and weight of pellet may actually be a negative effect. mickmep
for bunnies i use bisley magnums in my .177 rapid. bought of a guy who used it for hft and he used jsb exacts in it. would probably help if you let us know what gun your using, may get some input from owners who've tried it. Air Arms S510 SL. with a mamba scope and a silencer. And a bipod. and a sling that i nicked from my fishing bag, but i don't think that's going to have a great deal of effect on the pellet!! It's squizzers I'm really thinking of. Ideally I'd like a .22 air rifle, but as i've not got the money to buy a whole new gun and scope so a heavier pellet was the next possibility. If it's not worth the expense, i won't bother!

Underdog
Get the pellets in the right place an weight plays no part Yeah, any 11ft/lb 177 I have used on sqizzers is no different than the 22 versions I have used irrespective of pell weight. Don't worry about it U.
secretagentmole
Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum, .177, 10.5 grain, superb pellets, my guns love them and I wont shoot anything else in them!
FalconFN
I used to use bus mags but they don't deform too well and the loopy trajectory put me off. I get cleaner kills with lighter pellets.

Crosman premier ultra magnums. Edited June 27, 2012 by NIGHT SEARCHER
Catweazle
I have found JSB Exact Heavy to be excellent. However, to kill a squirrel cleanly you need exact shot placement which in most hunting scenarios you'll find easier with a standard JSB pellet. There is something to be said in favour of a heavier pellet if you really know your ranges, sniping off a bird feeder for example.

Bisley Magnums. Crosman premier ultra magnums. In fairness, I said that about rabbits - not squizzers - out of personal experience. I've shot one squirrel in my whole life and, having heard that they can be tough little beggars to crack, wondered whether the jump up to ultras mags would be worth it. Do you use the standard ones, or the ultra magnums for squizzers? BTW, the maximum number of emoticons for any one post is 20 apparently. If you can use that many up in a post, I'll get you a pint as a reward Edited June 28, 2012 by chrisjpainter

If you can use that many up in a post, I'll get you a pint as a reward I like Bisley magnums i find them hard hitting and very accurate for squirrels. Crosman premier ultra magnums again hard hitting and accurate for squirrels and look like tracers when out lamping there that shiney. But a mate of mine swears by RWS super points for squirrels he says that they penetrate the skull better and give him more instant kills. At the end of the day its what pellet works well in your Barrel i have 10 Rifles 3 in .177. My BSA Super 10 likes the Bisley magnums or RWS Superdomes. My Logun solo likes RWS Superdomes but spits BSA pellets all over the place. My Daystate huntsman FTR shoots any pellet very well pellet on top of pellet at 25 yds. One cheap twin ring pointed pellet that worked well in the Daystate was Webley Hustler Harrier pointed £3.50 a tin. from www.airgunpellet.co.uk
chrisjpainter
You have a huntsman? I so nearly bought one of those! then I realised I didn't have the cash. Is it as good as it looks? Might stick to the normal pellets, or perhaps by a small tin of heavies, just as an experiment; that website you mentioned looks awesome! Yes the Daystate is just amazing it is so accurate it still surprises me just how good it is when i knock down targets at 60 and 70 yds. Its got a lovely walnut stock that just feels right when you shoulder the gun it gives you confidence before you take a shot. What is amazing with the Daystate is it doesn`t seem to matter what pellets i put in it its accurate with them all even cheap **** ones. I mentioned this to a gunsmith and he just said thats the quality of the Daystate Barrel. I have a .22 Logun pro MK2 that i bought because it feels right and thats deadly accurate to.
