I`m currently working in Surrey at the moment and want to take my boss for a quick round of clays using my shotgun and carts, i looked at Bisley and you must have insurance and a licence, that being the case i`m based at Guildford and looking for a ground open during the week and with a section 11 exemption also being nice would be handy.

Chalky Hill and Three Counties between them are open every Sunday morning and a reasonable drive from Guildford. They are operated by the same people and are happy for you to bring guests. There is also a very friendly farm shoot on the last Sunday of the month although you will be squadded with members and may feel a bit more pressured for time than with the others. The facilities are also more basic. Get in touch if you want to know more.

Surrey Sporting Club in Effingham (I reckon 8 miles from Guildford). Open 1st, 3rd (and if there is one) 5th Sunday of the month. Google them for directions. Hard to find anywhere open during the week in these parts. Also try Headley Clay Pigeon Shooting Club. They are open a couple of Saturdays a month - with free barbecue!

Just to explain, there are multiple clay shooting operations at Bisley - at least 4 layout sets operated by 5 clubs.

Bisley Shooting Ground operates from Council Club beside Wm Evans Gun Shop. BSG has two layouts, the main sporting / tuition area behind the Clock Tower adjacent to Council Club - and an extensive Pay and Play area that is a 1/2 mile drive away, but you still register and pay at Council Club within Bisley Camp.

Then there is National Clays. This is the canopied layouts to the right of the road up to the clock tower. Built with Lottery money for the Commonwealth games this features O/T layouts with D/T; ABT; 5-trap etc capability and each with dual purpose on the layout for O/S or ESK. Interspersed is 3 more DTL layouts, and a final 8th layout for skeet / trap training. NCSC is a walk-in operation, just pay and shoot subject to you having gun and license. Coaching etc available by appt.

NCSC was built over the old Ray Ward Trap Club layouts ( 2 x DTL and an ABT). The old Ray Ward club hose is that interesting twin towers white weatherboard building behind the modern NCSC clubhouse. As part of the bargain to get the old Ray Ward layouts, by then run by Bisley Gun Club, a deal was done to give layout time and clubhouse facilities within the NCSC.

Bisley Gun Club effectively became a sub-club with layout rights on certain days on the NCSC layouts. They outgrew the shared facilities at the NCSC clubhouse and built their own clubhouse adjacent to the lower DTL layouts on the NCSC ranges.

Guildford Gun Club also uses NCSC ranges for exclusive use on GGC evenings in the summer months.

Then there is the Pirbright Shoot over on the banks to the left of the Bisley 1100m rifle ranges. Access is only through ATR Pirbright main entrance, but its still a civilian shoot. Constructed by Royal Engineers, this members only club ( the club issues photo ID for gate entrance) has a first class sporting layout and excellent club house.

Soo...

there's quite a choice within "Bisley"

Not many will let a none liscence holder out without an instructor that's just sensible as they don't know you or him but I recon if you get known at a club/ground they will let you or get him to cough up for a lesson, much better introduction!
