Put in for a .17 HMR at the same time (don't forget to ask for a moderator for each caliber). You might never want a .17, but it's very possible that over time you'll want to near double the range of the .22lr and have less danger of ricochet. It costs nothing to ask for the second rifle, if you then choose to buy one then it's quick and easy, if you don't ask for one then it costs money and time to get it added in the future.

You may also want to bang in for a 223 in case you decide to go for fox as well. Then, while you're at it a 243 for dee ...................

For crying out loud.

Get yourself a 22LR and moderator of your choice together with a box of as many different sub sonic cartridges that you can get your hands on so you can pick the most accurate in your rifle. You want to be able to buy at least 500 rounds (cost) and keep at least 750 (it's very easy to blow 100 if you've had a cleaning/zeroing/heavy rabbit session).

Get a half decent scope, 5ish to 16ish mag (is sufficient for the range of the rifle) by 50 or 56 objective which will cover all eventualities and again of your choice.

For lamping, again your choice but be advised that some (if not all) manufacturers tell little porkies regarding the efficiency and range of their products' beams

Putting in for a .17 is sensible as many people find they want one after getting a .22lr (myself included). As I said, you don't have to get one, but for another 20 seconds of time to write '17 RF + MOD' on an application form it's well worth having the option of then buying one if you want. If it's not needed, it has cost nothing. Nothing wrong with that.

Nope, nothing wrong at all.

Sensible is open to debate

I answered the OP's question, giving my opinion which is all any of us can do. Had he asked which rifles and rounds, I'd have done my best there too and this is where the debate comes in as I would have suggested WMR.
