Navara, L200 or ????

Hi all,

I've currently got a 52 reg L200 and I'm thinking of changing it, not because I don't like it but I'll have a bit of spare cash from selling my quad so thought I might get a newer truck instead of wasting it on something else haha

I've always liked the navara's so would like one of them but would the L200 be a better choice?? Or something else?

Which of the two has the most leg room in the back??

Who's changed from a older L200 to something newer? Pleased?

Any input welcomed

your basic options are going for a new shape L200 or a navara in new shape variant, both give better mpg than the old ones and more refinement. When I swap my 05 L200 it will be for a new shape with the newer engine. My main reasoning is the navara is a fair bit bigger which I don't need, the other plus point is they are higher geared which is the old shapes only real issue they do rev fairly high on the motorway. Good when towing but not the rest of the time.

Your other options are the ranger or hilux, ranger is more agricultural and cheaper and Hilux are silly money as a second hand buy.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, could do with having a look/drive of them both, the navara being bigger would sway me towards it I think because aswell as being used for hunting it gets used for family camping trips etc

Gearing is a pain on the current L200 I have, a good mod is to fit a diff off a 2.8 mitsi as the final drive ratio is better suited for road use so better mpg etc

Have rangers in work an I wouldn't have one for myself, another option is the Isuzu?

Not when you consider how much longer than the other two they last! and to be honest how much better they are! I'd spend the extra and get the hilux, or an Izuzu rodeo as at least they are known for reliability!

Odd, you seem like a sensible guy alex but you're soft spot for L200's as a good truck baffles me!

when you consider I've had two now and done 100k in them over the last 7 or so years I could have done that in a hilux but if I added the cost of these together and all maintenance its under 10K, and I still have a 90k 05 plate one outside. Over that time I have had the odd niggle and problem but nothing compared to what you are led to believe you'll have, It sort of qualifies me to comment on them. Last time I bought a 4 year old 60k one owner and it was 6k I'd have had to pay twice that for the same age and mileage hilux. Good they are but they sure are trading on reputation, and one that isn't quite what it used to be the newer trucks are no where near as good as the older ones. The reason the older ones were so good was they were basic much like fourtracks in the mechanicals. Abuse them though and they still had the usual 4x4 problems,

went across a rape stubble field recently in a new navara and to be honest it did a bit of sliding! jumped in my l200 new shape and hey, no bother. stick to what you know--l200. one of my clients buys a new one every year and puts about 50k on them before getting a new one (to much money ha ha) and he is now on his seventh! :good:

That's not good, my current L200 isnt great off road and that's lifted with BFG mud terrains on it.

Luckily I don't do any serious off road just light stuff otherwise it would be a 110!

I'm going to try and have a drive of each of them navara, L200 and rodeo so I can see what there like an go from there

thats the best way test drive and go from there, off road ability is really down to tyres and driver with most of them. Pickups aren't made for really hard core off roading but mine surprises me regularly with how good it is. The one big perk for certainly the new L200 and I assume the navara and hilux is you can run it in 4wd at normal road speeds which you can't with the old one. Useful if it is icy

I'm on my 3rd L200 only changed the 06 one as I rolled it and flipped it but I walked out without a scratch on me. Now got an 11 plate and love it the newer ones have a smaller tub so the back seats are bigger think it's around 8 inches

It's a long shot, but where did you roll it?

I pulled someone out of a rolled L200 on the M25 a couple of years back....It was pulling a trailer loaded with garden waste

I have just purchased a new "STEED SE", for the price you get plenty of truck. I previously had a L200 4 life, but it died (03 plate). This is obviously more modern, but early thoughts I am very pleased.

How are you finding it Terry? They look good for the money any pics?

"

The picture would be the same as in the brochure or on the website, I have metallic Silver, but I will try and get a picture posted.

I allowde the Garage where I purchased the vehicle to leave their sales graphics on the vehicle for 3 months, (greaty earner for me) if you want to know what they paid drop me a PM

It is a very nice drive, I have yet to take it on a long run, the wife loves it. One com[laint, with everything it has as standard there is not a clock anywhere in the vehicle, so the bonus being" I had no idea of the time and that is why I was late home

Fuel economy looks good and the insurance rating is low at 8A if I am correct.

I had a really good deal and this made the purchase a must.

A long shot indeed maybe even further than the range of the mighty hmr as I'm in Aberdeen

be interesting when they do an Ncap test on them as I think thats the biggest concern with chinese cars at the moment.

The price is right to get interest and China is desperate to flog them over here but they are largely copies of other manufacturers vehicles and some are pretty bad copies.
