Addison84
hmmm MTC viper was my first option, i haven't considered nikko scopes yet as i was unsure of the quality......for some reason ive had i in my mind that they are really only suited to air rifles, i guess ive just been proven wrong! Addison84
Dear all, Ive had a bit of an extravagant flutter on ebay and have ended up with a Schmidt & Bender 8x56 Hungarian, which i paid £360 for! I'll post an updat ewhen i get it through the post. What are your thoughts?
al4x
nice move, they are a mile apart from most of the suggested scopes and you won't be disapointed. Best bit being if you ever want to upgrade to a variable you will sell it for what you paid for it.
DaveK
I wouldn't go MTC had problems with them ok for a rim fire if your on a budget and the ir packs up on them Funny that. I was shooting rabbits at 340 yards the other week with a MTC Taipan on top of a .243. For a budget scope they punch above their class. Ooops, young M-Biv has already posted. In addition he does foxes regularly at over 200-300 yards with his MTC on a .243 and I've seen him do 400 yard rabbits. Nowt wrong with MTC. steve_b_wales
I recently bought a MTC Genesis 'scope, which is sitting on my CZ452 .17HMR. As soon as the weather gets better(?) I hope to try a bit of 'long range' shooting with it.

Bear68
Have a look at the website for Macleods of Tain - they have a lot of second-hand scopes, and a good reputation for being helpful and charging reasonable prices.
Paddy Galore!
bet it was a bright day though no al4x, it'd give too much glare
Dekers
Have a look at the website for Macleods of Tain - they have a lot of second-hand scopes, and a good reputation for being helpful and charging reasonable prices. I went there about 10 years ago during a trip to an estate in Lairg, loads of all sorts of country kit including fishing of course, I had to be dragged out....at the time they were a breath of fresh air, what a RFD should be, a lot can change in that time but there name crops up from time to time and so far I have not heard a bad word! WGD
If you are thinking of upping your budget to that point then seriously consider a schmidt and bender 8x56 they come up second hand for round the £300 mark or slightly more, they will knock the socks off all the above as a stalking scope. Low light they are simply brilliant and even better if along the line you decide you want a variable you won't loose any money once at that level they just don't go any lower price wise S&B 8x56 is what I'd be buying - in fact I did a couple of years ago for £300 from gun-trader as new. Superb scope.
