Bear68
A friend has asked me if I can supply 10 brace of partridges in the feather; what is the going rate at the moment? Thanks, Bear.
scolopax
not an exact answer but in previous season I think they were down to 20p a brace.
kobidog
I have seen gamedealers buying woodpigeon for 45p a bird so I would have thought partridge would be higher than 20p a brace!
CharlieT
20p sounds about right.
Rosebank22
ill buy a fair few brace if they are only 20p!!
Whitebridges
What does your friend want to do with them bear68? Fox bait? Fly tying? If he and friends want to eat them then £1 a bird. If you pluck and dress then £4 a brace. Otherwise take 'em to your game dealer.
Bleeh
To be honest I'd let him have them for free, and at any rate the worth a returned favor (or a couple of pints) would be more than you could charge.
Bear68
He'll pluck and dress them, £1.20 per brace is the cheapest I've been quoted today - very cheap for such meat!
Fatcatsplat
And a tenner a brace in the butchers up in town!!
Bear68
The highest mak-up I've seen is a local pub serving pheasant breast fillets at £15 per meal, the same price as their fillet steak. Pretty good profit margin when they probably paid 50p to £1 per brace.
hillmouse
Not looked this season but we normally started on about £2-00/brace rapidly dropping to £1-00 but never went below that. Very annoying to see a local restaraunt offering a pigeon salad starter at £6-75 and a partridge and pear main course at £16-95. Total game cost, about £1-30 even at good rates for the shooter. Whitebridges
And a tenner a brace in the butchers up in town!! Yup that's about right with our butchers. Disgusting really. So what margin do the supermarkets make on chicken? They must buy it in for pence? Kills the wild bird market for volume sales?
cant hit rabbits 123
The trouble is, we, the shooters sell our birds for what the buyer will give. That is quite often pence. The buyer then re sells it to the customer as a meal, cooked with a handful of vegetable and garnish for £15 to £20. Even counting labour costs, fuel costs and other over heads, they still make a killing while the shooter loses out being paid as good as nothing and the end customer gets ripped off and goes home thinking game is damn expensive and rarely has it again. Rushjob
We were at £1.60 a brace for the first 2 weeks of the season but are now getting 80p per brace.
