crow caller

The Primos Crow Caller may well be rated as the best on the market by many on this forum and I will certainly not argue that point as I have never used one or heard one being used.

I use a Johnny Stewart crow caller and that works a treat. It could well be rated as next in line to the Primos Crow Caller if not equal to it. As long as my Johnny Stewart caller continues to work (I've been using it for over a year now and it's still as good as new) I will carry on with it and suggest that it might well be worth considering as an alternative to a Primos caller. (I don't think there is much of a price or quality difference between the two)

Much I beleive is down to getting used to whatever caller you get and knownig how to use it properly which can only be done with a bit of practice - Some make the mistake of just blowing into their caller just as you would a whistle and that simply makes a caller sound terrible.

The one that I would avoid is the ACME caller - I had one and it sounded like Danald Duck with severe chest problems and fell apart in no time at all. I would most certainly never buy another ACME caller even though they are cheaper than most other callers!

i use a primos and find it really good, i also have a Daryl Gibson call thats pretty good but slightly higher pitched as its an american crow, as for the best sounding its all down to learning how to blow them, once mastered the Sam Neyt call is fantastic.

The Primos is about the best (for the money) on the market. I have used one for years. I have also used the Sam Neyt one, and sold it the very next day, as the calls I produced with it, could be done, and more, with the Primos. The ACME caller is more suited for Jackdaw's, owing to it's higher pitched sound.

The Sam Neyt & Primos, are both excellent callers. As I mentioned before, I have used a Primos for many years, but bought a Sam Neyt one to see what they were like. (after all the hype about them) It was very good, but I found that I could get exactly the same calls, and many more different ones, with the Primos. This is why I sold the Sam Neyt one the very next day.

Whatever caller suits you, that's fine. If you spend £30+ for a caller, and find it excellent in use, then you should be happy. But the Primos, costing a lot less, is the one for me. I have recommended the Primos to other people for many years, and most have agreed that it's an excellent caller, after purchasing one. (and learning how to use it correctly)

Hi guys

Just joined this forum and read these posts with great interest. I am new to shooting and even newer to Crow decoying as I've only been once. I bought the Acme crow call at it was £5 and thought "that'll do!", but the thing does should like donald duck with man flu and I'm glad to hear that other think that as well. I have just bought the Primos.

Hoping to get out Saturday with it for the first time - as tips on using the Primos greatly received!

Thanks, Jon

Hi john i shoot alot of crows, im decoying most weekends on various farms and i find the primos to be the best around! Iv had it around 3months and it hasnt failed to bring my decoys to the attention of the crows im shooting yet! So if you ask me its pretty good!

It takes a bit of practice to get the calls sounding perfect but iv got there now!

When blowing growl into it it gets it nice and raspy, only call to get there attention after that let there inquisative nature do the rest, if ur set up is good and ur where they want to be then its game on! For a higher pitch for the jackdaws bite the reciever and a sharp but short blow this makes that repetative chirp sound that they make often followed by a cawww! This works a treat for me!

good luck

I swear by my Sam Neyt one. Expensive, but works every time without fail. Best thing about them is that they are guaranteed for life. Sam states on his sales page that if your dog eats it or you break it etc. he will replace it. Plus you can use it in various ways including a screaming 'magpie in distress' call which pulls in the maggies like you wouldn't believe! As previously stated, it's all in the throat/stomach. Once mastered, it sounds excellent.

You can also buy his callers on Ebay, he sells them one at a time under the name Corvussam.

I managed to get mine for £16 which is a bargin as they often sell for over £30

I have got an app for my Samsung galaxy s2 called crow calls. It's free and they are genuine crow calls. It's not really loud enough, so I have some cheap small battery powered speakers in my bag. It doesn't come anymore realistic.

Download the app and try it. Like I said it's free, so what have you got to lose.

Then if you're happy with it, get some little speakers.

I've just checked the BASC website and you are ,correct.

Just goes to show, something I never thought about ,because I've seen all those Cass Creek things advertised. Its obvious now they are just for the USA etc.

Look at this, http://www.gamefayre.co.uk/game-calls/Cass-Creek-Crow-Digital-Caller

That can be very misleading as they are for sale in the UK
