Jarrett or Eider?

Which do you use, which would you buy and why?

I'm leaning toward the Eider as it seems to be more versatile...correct me if I'm wrong. :hmm:

Finally, the Kentdale could be thrown into the mix if people have good enough things to say about it?

Agree with Albert888!

I have the eider jacket and the zip is a nightmare to close and needs to be kept really clean to stand any chance at all.

The jacket is great in every other respect and really warm just spoilt by the zip being too light for the job!

The zips on the Eider tend to split and trying to zip up your jacket when your hands are cold is frustrating to say the least. Don't force the zips though, put some water on them and they work better. It's a shame because, otherwise it's a nice jacket. I can't believe their R&D could not forsee the problem.

The Eider is a good jacket, yes it has its issues mainly being the zip and i don't find the layout of the pockets very good. But it is warm, windproof and waterproof and can be machine washed and tumble dried.

Even with its issues i wouldn't swop mine for another, i have had it for 3 seasons now and it is still working a treat.

I always wear neoprene waders on the marsh so a wet bum isn't an issue.

Have you had any trouble with the zip? This does seem to be the only weak point on the Eider.....I think the Jarret is discounted now, I can't find anyone who actually likes it!

I dont have the eider have the jarret,a couple of my shooting mates have them and they do leak in.One of them is on his third due to leaking in and zip problems. The other his leaks in on the seams. Dont get me wrong the rivers west jackets are very good but have problems, with a bit of reworking and less stiching a proper zip could be ideal maybe a mark two version is needed.

i have the eider jacket. absolute rubbish. dont waste your money.

after 3 seasons use its been back twice for new zips to be put in on the game pockets in the back, the front pockets and also the main zip which pretty much is all of them! it leaks through all the stitched joints, especially at the elbows and the top of the arms. the magnetic pockets dont shut properly if you put stuff in them and they fill with water in the rain. the handwarmer pockets also fill with water and make your hands cold. you end up wet on the inside of the jacket, due to perspiration not being able to get through the material and this will make you cold. it also weighs about 4 times heavier when wet and takes forever to dry out. the shell elastics on the arms are useless and have now lost elasticity, even though ive never used them, and the press studs that hold the hood on have pulled out.

i still use my eider jacket, as its warm and windproof. but i only do the zip halfway down and wear it like a smock, and i pack it in my bag and put i on after walking across the marsh. if it rains, i put on my ex army gortex jacket which is unbeatable in my opinion.

i also have a rivers west watch cap, which is also useless as it actually makes your head cold due to perspiration build up. it does however make a fantastic collapsible dog water bowl which sort of lends to its waterproof properties.

I have just bought the eider jacket this week in the duck blind pattern.

I had it on this morning down the marsh and can say it is a very warm jacket, not too bulky and has plenty of pockets. The main zip is a bit fidley to fasten and is on the wrong side. The poachers pocket doesn't seem to be lined with a wipe clean type lining like on most good poachers pockets and the entry on the pocket should be higher to give you more room to drop stuff down the pocket. The other pockets and cartridge bag seem ok and the magnets seem to keep closed with 20 cartridges in. The hood is good but could either do with a wired peak or a strap from the back of the neck to the top of hood to keep it pulled back for a better field of view.

Although the website shows the jacket with shell holders on the arms, the 2012 stock doesn't have them anymore due to a problem with the stitching leaking, I know this because rivers west phoned me back today to apologise for the misleading picture on the web and are changing the picture ASAP.

I am happy with it up to now for sitting in a hide on a cold morning.
