barrelsniffer
May soon be looking at selling my landrover disco 3 as its just costing to much..as i get one thing fixed then something else goes wrong today its cost me 1250+ few months back 600+..so if i do get rid i will be looking at getting a pickup with less gadgets so those in the know what are the best suited for off road capability as well as comfort to drive long distance. Fisheruk
I went for a Isuzu rodeo Denver max very popular with farmers I had a Rodeo Denver, very good and reliable. Just taken delivery of an Isuzu D Max Utar. Very impressed. and fuel consumption is improved to 38mpg. Bit more refinement. You will find these Isuzu are solidly built but they still drive more like cars. Also off road is very good. They are designed to be used. They are designed to be used. I have a rodeo and its well built reliable and has never got stuck yet in deep snow or mud it even shrugged off hitting a peacock at 65mph on the motorway. Tows more weight than the others which we need and is as comfortable as a pick up will get. I love mine. Only downside its an auto as it is adapted for my wifes disability so a bit thirstier than normal but didnt buy it for its fuel economy. barrelsniffer
What's your budget is the main consideration? I should get around 10,000 for my disco but may buy something cheaper that 10.k, to have some spare cash for a bespoke cab to be made for the back. al4x
I put more detail on the SD reply wise but have a look about before just going hilux as you really don't get much for your money, pickups and reliability depend largely on use some work hard and some get thrashed down motorways both will inevitably lead to the odd issues, also remember there are rather a lot more Navaras and L200's out there so you will proportionally get more negatives about as few give their good experiences. Contrary to popular opinion drive the newer hilux's hard and they will occasionally have problems like any but the old basic models gave them a reputation that has meant prices stay very high. You don't get much for 10K whereas L200, navara or the rodeo you get a vehicle thats under 3 years old with a reasonable mileage. The only real thing to do is try some,
stumpy69
Farmers weekly did a review seven different pickups. Nav, Isuzu d max,Greatwall,L200, Amorak, Hilux and Ford ranger. 1ST NAVARA 2ND ISUZU 3RD FORD RANGER 4TH AMORAK. TOYOTA and L200 and GREATWALL bottom of the pile. I have a navara and has just done over 100,000 miles never had a problem only replaced uv joints on the propshafts and both front wheel bearings. Alot of the problems people say they have are due to the older D22 (before 06) engines blowing up, this does not happen on the D40.
