Leicpigeon1990
Very nice, how long does something like this take you to make? I would really like to have a go at knife making one day. Any good guides on it?
whalefish
Very nice, how long does something like this take you to make? I would really like to have a go at knife making one day. Any good guides on it? I can get the bulk of the shaping of the blade done in the forge in a couple of hours but finishing the bevels and working on the handle and bolster takes a while. Loads of info online on how to, check out the british blades website. The tricky bit is getting the hardening and tempering process right, you can make it look great but if it dosen't hold an edge its not much use. Eskoky
Really nice - I like the rustic look of the blade yet the quality of the handle makes it look like a hard worker!

whalefish
Heres another, forged from rebar with a spalted chestnut handle. Not quite finished, still more polishing needed and the handle is still to be glued with a leather spacer to be added. Thanks. Greymaster
I found Green Pete's video a must watch. You can download ISO via bit torrent and burn to DVD. I recommend it. http://www.greenpete...e-making-video/ Plenty of tea mashing going on as well! Edited January 7, 2013 by Greymaster

Barton90
awesome work mate did you do the blade on a stone when you'd finished or did you start the edge off whilst in the forging process?
whalefish
awesome work mate did you do the blade on a stone when you'd finished or did you start the edge off whilst in the forging process? The bevel is all forged by hand then polished and i added a small secondary bevel with a stone to form the edge.

Paddy Galore!
some really nice work there whalefish, i've made a few bits and pieces over the years, mainly from other broken donor knives. the best one by far was a stiletto blade ground from a triangular file, they do take a lot of grinding, luckily i was working in a foundry and i burn cast a handle in ally bronze. then duly had the thing stolen from my locker, it was a pretty piece, someday i'll get round to making another.
