grasscutter
Can anyone shed a bit of light on retro fitting cruise control on a car please? It's a Mark 1(A) 2004 Vauxhall Meriva. 1.6 petrol semi-auto I know I should get off my backside and visit the local Vauxhall dealers but thought I'd pick your collective brains first. It's the Life model which is classed as the basic, but has the auto box. Which is overseen by the brain of the car in that the footbrake has to be pressed before starting or selecting gear. This leads me to think that the car computer should be able to cope with regulating the speed. New steering wheel stalks are available to purchase on eBay but the seller has never come back to me whether it's possible to retrofit to mine Help and sarcastic comments all welcome :-)
Budice
It probably depends on if it was an option when the car was new mate
grasscutter
Thanks for the reply Budice. It's probably going to be that I can't do it but I've got to ask. Thanks

four-wheel-drive
I am no expert but from what I have seen on this subject with other makes of car it is not as simple as just getting some switches and plugging them in I may be wrong but to do it to my jeep was quite complicated and I decided that it was not worth the bother and expense. I just found this link with more information. http://www.carfi.co.uk/html/cruise_control.html?gclid=CNyg_5CtxbMCFYXLtAodHmwASg Edited November 10, 2012 by four-wheel-drive
Paladin
I think it can be done Check one of the Vauxhall Forums, you'll probably need to find someone with OP COM or TECH 2 software. As I don't think for one minute that a Vauxhall dealer will touch it. Paladin
four-wheel-drive
I would be very careful if I was you I remember there was problems with some ford 4x4 trucks suddenly wanting to go at 90 mph in traffic and going off the road killing the drivers not a job for people who do not no what they are doing. Pastiebap
When I looked at doing it for the Rover 75 it involved replacing/reprogramming the ECU and steering wheel as well as a new wiring loom. So I decided to say sod it and not bother.
HDAV
Possible but not worth it
grasscutter
Sorry, Shel - started another thread on same subject. Thanks for trying Gordon. It looks like being tricky anyhow. Perhaps the Vauxhall dealer will make up my mind for me! Thanks to everyone for answering, I'll post what happens when I know.

HDAV
http://www.conrad-anderson.co.uk/cruisecontrols/vehicle-specific-cruise-control/cruise-control-opel.htm £500 looks cheap!
Chr15j
How about a brick. Cheap to buy and easy to apply.

grasscutter
I thought about a brick but I have enough trouble getting my plates of meat in! Cheers The Tech 2 looks interesting Deershooter. Thanks for that, I'll ask around my local garages to see if anyone has use of one. A replacement stalk looks around £50 on the bay. Things are looking up

Gordon R
Apologies for resurrecting the thread. Grasscutter now has the requisite column stalk, but is having difficulty locating a garage, who :- 1. possess a Tech 2 in the North West. 2. Has the nous to know how to do the job, without a sharp intake of breath and stupid comments like - "it will have to go on the computer" - when we already know that. Any help welcome. karpman
Thanks Karpman, that's very good of you I'll keep researching what is involved and will come back to you when I know Cheers If I remember correctly it is just a matter of enabling it. We done a vectra but was some time ago. If you do decide on a op-com I have got the most stable software at work. The one on the disk is normally ****. grasscutter
Hi Karpman It is not looking very hopeful for the cc I'm afraid. The car is an auto which is apparently not able to be retro fitted with cruise. Parapilot is looking into it for me so fingers crossed. Thanks for the offer anyway Thanks
