simply pack up the existing ceiling joists with long lengths of timber until you are at the height of the insulation, then board out with chipboard flooring at right angles to the joists, special loft flooring chipboard with jointed edges are cheap enough in packs at b and q as are the joist timbers, remember do not be tempted to nail anything as the vibration will loosen ceiling plaster fillings in screw heads etc, just screw it all together for max strength. dont forget to wear a mask and goggles is you have fibreglass insulation or you will suffer, best of luck, ex property developer from france, now retired thank god, regards alan.

If it is a new house it probably has a roof of gang nailed trussed rafters. If that is the case you can screw some horizontal bearers above the top of the insulation; to the side of each truss and then screw the decking across the new bearers. No point in removing the insulation. It is there to save you energy.
