solz
what everyones views on the benelli m2, i am looking in to getting one. i would manly use it for rough/hide shooting and a few clays once a month. is the comfort tech recoil system worth getting? what does everyone think of the recoil on it? ive only ever shot gas operated semis, note i would be using cartridges ranging from 28g clay loads to 36g cartridges. how are they on cartridges? do they shoot anything lighter than 28g? and what about cartridge length? will they shoot 65mm? 67mm? what the after sale care like?, and how easy are parts available? any advice and reviews would be grateful. thx solz
b16jus
Cant comment of shooting one, but they feel lovely and well made and ive heard good things J
telf
would like to know the same as i was thinking about getting either the super black eagle 2 or the beretta a400 extreme but as its only for pigeons, crows etc,i think the m2 would be ok as its got a 3" chamber against the other two 3.5" which i presume is more for waterfowlers, bigger carts which i wouldnt be useing atb dave
Clamps
I have a 7+1 Benelli M2 and would definitely recommend it. it can fire 28g without difficulty and the recoil system really does work (for me). the only down side - if any, is that if you have it loaded fully (i.e. with 8) it is a little heavy. but otherwise it is a great gun. Clamps
I don't do wildfowling so i have only put normal 70mm through it, but i think they can take the bigger loads.
slated
I have one. Lovely to use Will cycle 24g eley first which are 67 mm cartridges all day long Not as light on the shoulder as gas type but I don't really notice it
roger3167
Fully agree with Clamps , beautiful gun easy to use,and a great recoil system.I load mine with 5 +1 as clamps states fully loaded it is a bit on the heavy side. They feel horrible The comfortech does nothing as its in the middle of the stock, so it cannot compress to absorb recoil. They are a bit short in the stock for me and, you couldn't at the time, get spacers to adjust the lop. Felt recoil, try your preferred cartridge through a light weight sbs to give you some idea. They prefer 70mm cartridges. I hated the big stepped rib. After sales and parts are usually very good from gmk, its how quick your gunshop acts is more the problem. That's just my opinion on them, same for the sbe2 but they struggle with light loads initially as they are designed as a fowling gun. Edit to add; mate has the A400 extreme, apart from the price, I cannot say a bad word about it. Much better adjustability with the shims to get a better fit, decent spacers to adjust lop, will cycle light clay right up 2 3.5" cartridges no problem. The recoil reduction system works extremely well too. Edited November 18, 2012 by chrispti
solz
Thx all, I'm left handed so that's why I was looking at the benelli, I do want a true left had gun. The lop does concern me as I'm a tall chap and a need a 15'' lop tbh, I have seen you can order a longer recoil pad for the benelli (extra cost) which can take the lop up to 14 3/4 this with ontop on cloths I would think would be ok for me, the high rip is a by strange, an I think I would need a high comb as well( another cost) I no they are easier to clean and what not, just wondering why they were like on shorter cartridges and lighter loads. Would you say the recoil is still lighter than a sbs or a u/o?
pickerup
Ive had benelli's for over 20 years never let me down yet, clean the barrel after use, and the insides once a year. spares, never needed any. recoil, hardly any different to a gas operated auto. shells, i use 7/1/2 or 6s on pigeons and BBs on foxes will take up to 56 gram shells, what more do you need, buy one you wont regret it. grahamch
Had an m2 left handed for a year and just sold it, worked fine with 24g loads through to 56g 3 inch loads. Only sold it as I couldn't shoot consistently with a semi auto after 40 years of side by sides

Guest cookoff013
with most autos just use 70mm carts. even my supernova hangs up on 65/67mm.
pickerup
Not all benelli's have stepped ribs. new ones come with shims so you can alter the drop and cast of the stock, if you buy 2nd hand, make sure it comes with the shims. LOP get a gunsmith to fit a spacer between stock and butt pad. or a thicker butt pad. Shells, 65mm or 70 mm no problem, 3ins 3s 4s or bbs on foxes. Brand, i use any make of shells i can buy cheap, they all work. Have a look at benelli centro some of them have some nice woodwork. If your anywhere near stratford on avon, you can come and try mine, any time.

Alfieri
If your not after a 3 1/"2 why spend that sort of money on an M2. I have had 2 Benelli's both extremely good but very expencive for what they are. I have also had brownings and winchesters which are a lot cheaper. I have gone back to an SX3 which is very light to handle, looks tidy and will cycle just about any cartridge. Each to their own before any comments! Been quoted £1000 for one today, from what I've seen a lot of the big names in semis are around this price as well, Left handed and don't want to shoot a right hand gun so I am limited in my choice
Alfieri
I'm a left hooker but never got on with a left handed auto and they are harder to sell on! You should get a good second hand one for around £750 !
solz
once again thx for all the replies, seems like more people think they are worth it than dont,
retromlc
The only thing I think is the recoil pads and comb raiser are about £90 each, which adds a lot to the cost, my mate ha a carbon fiber rib benille and its a nice gun, not as nice as my A400 thiugh
Salop Matt
I have one and love it, best thing since sliced bread and mines in black synthetic ! I ahve only found 1 28 gram cartridge it wont cycle which is a Hull comp X ! but other than that it will cycle eley firsts, olymics, express sporters, friocci, chedite, gamebore white gold and a few others i dont remember ! I havent found a 21gram shell it will cycle reliably though, but there are others on you tube where theres does cycle 21grmas, maybe i havent put enough through mine yet ! Never tryed a 24 gram shell in any gun but will give it a bash and see what happens ! Also tryed 50gram 0`s and they cycle just fine (Charlie hates them) My current prefered cartridges of choice are: clays = Eley olympics 28gram 8`s Game = Gambore 30gram 6`s The comfortec is well worth it and loverly and soft / gentle esp when shooting in just a T-Shirt ! Recoil wise its a little more than a gas auto but its far softer than a OU / SXS. Cleaning is a breeze and very simple to strip and the chromed / SS bolt is real easy to clean. No mucked up gas systems and springs to mess about with ! And this also helps with comfort esp the fore peice grip, its nice and slim and doesnt feel like your pointing a traffic cone. When I pick up a gas auto now it feels cumbersome in the fore peice ! The stock is just fine for me and when you do shoot the 50gram loads you can feel the comfortec system move and absorbe recoil ! Also the soft peice on the top is nice too. Ive not needed to put any spacers in either. I was oridginally looking at a winchester sx3 but when I handles that it felt very cheap and not of much better quality than a hatsan. I handled the browning and berretta`s and they were okay but just didnt have that feel and fit i wanted for my money...... last one i tried was the M2 expecting to hate it...... How wrong was I, I loved it even in 30" barrel. It just felt right and so i took it and knowing nothoing of the recoil system was a little worried about it but that was soon put to bed and ive never looked back ! Cant recomend it enough for everything from clays to roost shooting ! If your ever in the area your welcome to have a bash with mine ! Drive By
I bought myself a Fabarm left handed semi auto as there is a limited choice for us lefties and i didn't want to spend benelli money (it was about £350 second hand from a dealer who'd had it for a while - not sure if that's a good sign though!!). I had no issues with it when i got it from the shop but sometimes it can be a bit selective when ejecting, i think that's probably more dure to the fact it needs a proper clean than anything else. There are cheaper options out there but whether they are a good i don't know - have never shot another auto (other than an escort...).
