the enigma
Afternoon lads.................. I'm on the look out for a range finder, and was wondering what peoples experiences of the above are? Also,do these range finders remain accurate out to the limits of their range, as, although I'm only going to be using it with an air rifle and rimfire at the minute, I may in the future add a CF rifle? Zulu
I too was looking for a LRF 400 s/h and placed an advert on an airgun forum , manage to pick up a LRF 600 couple of weeks old unused for £85 , took it out for an hour last week to have a play and test out . Closest distance was about 5 metres up to the maximum 600 yds for this model , I found some objects difficult to get a reading on but well defined things such as posts/tree trunks/cars/white shiny plastic cladding/cows/horses all gave good instant readings . I did have an expensive ( at the time 1996 ) Bushnell and for the price these Hawkes are good value , I found I was over estimating the range before using the finder . Seamus
I bought one of these a few months ago so that I could accurately zero my .22 and .223 on my land, plus give me a better idea of the distances certain objects were from my usual shooting positions. It measures consistently and ranges well on small objects at distances well in excess of 200m. I also found I was over estimating distances without it. I can't compare it against any others as I've not used any, but this one works for me and I'll recommend it on that basis!
V8 90
I bought the Hawke 1000 Pro - you say you "May" go up to CF then you may as well spend the extra now - I paid £125 for mine (New)

Dekers
READ the small print about range, it isn't what you think in most cases! They all have a place and can all be useful, I've had 3 range finders including £400 of Nikon, (not had any Deben) and to be honest I have been really ****** off, all 3 have gone back as faulty. I must have been seriously unlucky but having spent so much time at the post office with returns I have lost all faith and given up. Fortunately, during the few hours each range finder worked, all it has done is confirm my range estimation has been pretty good, so I'm not bothered about them anymore! 30-6
I got the MTC rapier, never measured against a tape measure, but it "works", so i assume it's right and accurate. Picks up good, even on grass.
