Days decoying

Finally managed to blag a day off work last week and so pencilled in a day’s decoying. Weather forecast was promising (overcast and windy) and the farmer had recommended 3 field that the Pigeons had been hitting really hard. I arrived at the farm at first light and spent the first 1hr driving between fields to see where the most activity was. There was an equal number of birds on both so set up under a tree that had 50 or so birds feeding on stubble directly in front of it. I walked the birds off the field and set up a standard horse shaped pattern with a turbo flapper at the head. I had barely got back into the hide when the first bird flighted in. This was only the second time that I’ve been out this year and was unfortunately rustier than I thought..........I raised my gun to the first pair that came in left to right only to realise the safety was still on and they scarpered by the time I was prepared! Fortunately it was a lesson well learned and whilst I missed some really easy birds I ended up with 22 Pigeons and a crow (including 2 pairs which is unheard of for me!)

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day and I can’t wait to get out again soon.
