steve_b_wales
So how far could I pick up Eye shine with one of these and a lightforce 170 with ir filter? I would estimate eyeshine for rabbits at approx 120 yards, and for fox, approx 180 yards. It's only the lack of powerfull IR that let's these NV monoculars down. I tried one with a Blazerlite fitted with an IR filter, and could see fox size targets at well over 200 yards.
Olliesims
That will do for me going to use it as a spotter unless I can find a way to mount it to the .
feaks
I had one of these spotters earlier this year but got rid as i found it very finicky when trying to focus at different distances. You can mount a rail on it using the tripod hole and use an added i.r unit which helps but it is like looking through a letterbox. I find my 5yr old gen 1 spotter, again from Lidl, easier to use. moor man
just seen this ( nothing to do with me) ok if your on a budget? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bresser-Digital-Night-Vision-Monocular-5x50-/150954582445?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item23259821ad How does this unit compare to Yukon NVMT 1........anyone? Feaks; yep they are a bit fiddly, small angle of view, very shallow depth of focus and not much good if you are looking through or past foliage as it throws the auto exposure. OK on open ground though. Still good value though.
Bewsher500
you need to focus it at a decent range, like 100yd then lock the focusing rings in place, anything closer and further is fine. having dual focusing fron tand rear drove me nuts until I realised they were moving every time i put it away
togger
Picked mine up from Lidl this morning. At our store they are keeping them in the storeroom, you have to ask at the counter for one. Just been trying it out in a pitch black store room and it works fine. I've connected mine to a JXD318, makes it a bit easier to use as the screen is bigger and I can record what it's aimed at. Just got to sort out fixing it to the rifle. vampire
I have one of the aldi monoculars which i use for spotting and would recomend it,i did mount it to the back of my scope on the .223 but focus/ir was useless it needs extra ir light to be any good for a scope mount, but as a hand held unit its like looking over fields on a moonlit snowy evening. I mounted mine with a rubber scope ring lense cover, the unit fitted into this snuggly and just secure with jubilee clips, but then you have to rotate the whole unit to focus thus losing/obscuring the ir !!. Go buy one they are well worth the money.
sitsinhedges
I just bought a lidl monocular to try but think it rubbish and it's going back later.

la bala
I just bought a lidl monocular to try but think it rubbish and it's going back later. did you take the end cap off.
sitsinhedges
did you take the end cap off. Not the first time Nevertheless I found it poor compared to the basic home made NV. The field of view was tiny and useless for spotting, IMO. Edited November 29, 2012 by sitsinhedges
gsorense
I got one of these yesterday and, after faffing about focussing using the front AND rear focus, the image is quite crisp and the onboard IR is better than I expected. But it is a bit like looking through a letterbox. People have posted about fitting the Yukon 1x24 lens to this unit, in theory this should give a wider field of view? Anyone got experience of this? Bewsher500
yep, I have one of these for an add-on that give 1.7x mag when attached to the scope. (14+x on a 8x50 which is a bit high but doable) As you can imagine 1.7x vs 5x is the main difference it widens the FOV but dramatically reduces mag which I actually have got used to helps to spot with both eyes open
gsorense
Thanks for the reply, look like I will go for a 1x Yukon lens then. I agree about spotting with both eyes open, the internal screen is very bright too! Like what you did using it as an addon in your earlier post, I may try this eventually but currently going to use it side-mounted to my day scope with an IR laser designator. Cheers
BerettaSV10
I forgot to go and see if they had any left today, are they worth the £99 if there are any left in my local lidl?
gsorense
I would say that they are probably as good as you can get for the price, if you dont have the expertise to make your own DIY setup, seems like a fairly solid bit of kit too and has a decent warranty. Bewsher500 - where did you get that clamp/DSA to mount the monocular to the rear of you scope?
