NickS
See if the university run a scheme whereby you can buy laptops without paying the VAT. I know that it is allowed in schools as we are zero rated but not sure about universities - it is well worth asking though. Nick

Sha Bu Le
Have a look on Dell or Acer websites, they often have business offers available. If you have your own business or your firm is co-operative you could pick up a good deal for a good specced lappy and usually next day delivery included. Bought a couple for Mrs S over the last 3-4 years, worked for an accomadating company. Waiting for her to break current one then I'll go back to my old firm and buy her another. Chris Bb
It's not the cost of the laptop, it's the software. How much do these people want? Make it affordable and we'll buy it.
Chr15j
Do you really need such high spec? 750gb had, what course is she doing, ba in music and video downloading. 250 should be more than enough. 6gb ram... Graphics card, if she's doing graphic design, animation or similar, fair enough, otherwise std integrated graphics card and 2-4gb ram should be enough. Saves a few squid too! Norfolk turkey
If you want cheap software and can prove that you are a student try software for students. Software such as office is very cheap

Chr15j
Honestly you don't need to spend more than £350. Bank the rest or put it towards an iPad mini (they will love you for that) or cash on a food store card so they don't go hungry.
