410's and reloading

Recommended Posts

a couple of months ago my mum died, and left me quite a wedge of money, as I've always liked 410's and hushpowers (had a few single shot) I've decided to treat myself to a mossburg pump hushpower, and a good amount of carts, but Im now thinking of when they run out and I need to buy more, at around £200 per 1000 it makes sense to me to look into home loading,

so do I go with something like a MEC or lee loadall or one of the small gadgets I've seen thats more hands on?

is there anyone in essex that could show me the ropes on homeloading, and maybe point me in the direction of where to buy items etc

is it then also necessary to start producing lead shot at home, or could I buy that from another member

No press is needed. All you need are hand tools, some of which can be handmade with simple tools.

The essentials, to my mind, are MEC Supersizer, scoops, and a crimp spinner for rolled turnover.

a PW member sent me some homemade scoops (from bullet casings) a while back, which made me think of using the more hands on type tools

+1

Don't scrimp on the quality of the tools, especially for the roll turnover and buy a decent set of powder scales. If you buy cheap you will most likely be buying again in a very short time.

All the best with it.

Sorry for all the questions but:

How do you insert the wads by hand without tearing your hair out? Is there a knack to getting them in without chewing the edges up/taking forever? Is it easier to use fibre than plastic?

I open the (flare) the case mouth using a discarded 'sealastic' nozzle.

My mate goes a step further by mounting the tool in a Bench drill and gently spinning it in the case mouth.
