henry d
Sorry Ive,an offhand remark, but I think it will be the screen as we had a few probs with some at work like this but they also had a problem with the text vibrating in some areas of the screen. Is that happening too? Piebob
Sounds like a hardware problem. I'm assuming you have a CRT type monitor rather than a flat screen LCD?

pin
If the picture is still perfectly visible, with just a larger border, sounds like someone mucking about with the resolution settings. If it does this by itself with you using it at the time it does it, its probably broken. Try right-clicking on the desktop, choose properties, choose settings and where it says screen resolution, first of all post the numbers it has there (eg 1680 by 1050), then try dragging the slider over to the right as far as it wil go. Hit apply and see if that cures it, don't panic if it all goes pear shaped, just leave it alone for 15 seconds and it will go back to how it was. Or it could be toast

pin
Pin I have got all that apart from the posting the numbers bit .............How do I do that I meant just put a reply here with what the numbers were on your computer when you checked. The idea being if I knew the make and model of your panel I could look up the specification and decide if the borders were simply caused by the wrong resolution being selected. Hope that makes sense

pin
Earlier in the thread you said you had a 19" flat panel, but it would seem you are saying you have a tiny branded 17" monitor - make your mind up!
Dunkield
Ive when you looked at that setting was the 'screen resolution bar' all the way to the right on the adjustment like this? If it is, it may be dying, but I have never seen a TFT picture collapse, that is quite common with CRT's as they get towards the end of their lives. Try and get a picture of it and se if there are any more deatils round the back somewhere.

I thought it was 19" ............Thats what my mate said when he built it Ive when you looked at that setting was the 'screen resolution bar' all the way to the right on the adjustment like this? Stuart It is over to the left mate ..............I will take a photo later on to-day but the thing seems to have righted its self ..When it fires up now the thick black borders are there and then all of a sudden the picture stretches to and thro several times before filling the proper margins Is Morphius looking for me .............Am I the one
pin
When the computer starts it is in a lower resolution, then it will likely change to what you have set. There are loads of things it could be, sadly very hard to diagnose on a forum If you can get someone to pop over who knows a thing or two, it would proabably be a lot easier
