Shooting near Whalley Lanc's

I live near Whalley in Lancashire and am surprised that there are very few clay shoots in the local area, I am going over to Kelbrook in the morning (Saturday) but wondered if anyone has a recommendation closer to home. Seems that most of the ones I have found are open Sunday late morning/lunch time which clashes with my Rugby commitments.

Please excuse me if I am repeating any previous posts.

Thanks for all the info, I will probably pop down to Kelbrook in the morning. Blackpool maybe next weekend.

Next question will be availability of rough/vermin shooting, will I get told to bu**er off if I go to my local farms and ask if I can shoot on their land? I used to shoot on farm land when I was young but used to go with a lad who had permission.

How did you find Kelbrook?

Well, things have certainly changed since the days of 25 skeet from 2 houses. Great setting and the staff were more than helpful (good old northern hospitality), my son wants to go now so I will be making the trip again tomorrow.

I really appreciate your comments and replies. Lets hope I can be as helpful in the future.

Cheers

We were at kelbrook on Saturday too:)

Had another lesson there with Geoff which we really enjoyed especially now as we have our certs and own guns. Also did a quick round after too.

The bacon butties are to die for :)

We will definatly be going again soon.

Glad you enjoyed it Del - it's a great shooting ground for all levels of shooter. :)

Went again on Sunday with my son (8 years old), they loaned me a .410 for him to use (£5). If you want a thoroughly enjoyable shoot then this is the place to go. Prices are good and the birds are testing, some of the very testing.

I think I may invest in a lesson or two as I do seem to be a bit rusty, possible down to old age and not moving quite as well I used to.

Yes, they do take care of you at Kelbrook - my wife was struggling with the weight of her Zoli Kronos (29.5" tubes), so they lent her two other guns to see if they could get a better fit. Customer service is their watchword. Very impressed.

Yep you are indeed correct, nice semi auto by the way. Did you manage to hit that rabbit on stand 3, I took three attempts before clipping it as the tree stump kept obscuring the view. I think a serious session is in order over the festive period.

By the way, you should try a .410 some time, I couldn't hit a darn thing with it.

What did she go with in the end? Zoli are a nice gun.

Well they let her have an older, lighter Zoli to begin with, then an alloy (actually aluminium of memory serves) gun, Winchester Select Light 12 bore with 28" tubes using 21g shells and she got on with it well. So it's something I'm looking at buying her for Christmas. And if she doesn't want her old Zoli Kronos, it'll become my new trap gun ;) I shoot a Zoli Sport Z-Extra myself.

managed to hit a few of them, the incoming high was easier, but I was using my over/under, my mate semi auto was a browning maxus, which actually belongs to kelbrrok. He bought his own and has a problem with it so it has been sent back to browning for investigation. Not surprised you struggled with a .410 I will stick with my trusy 12 bore as cartridge prices for .410 are silly compared to 12 bore. your lad looked to be enjoying himself good to see youngsters be tought correctly

Glad you and your son had a good time.

Everyone is so helpfull there, that's why we enjoy going and having lessons with geoff.

There's some tough targets for people like me and the wife (beginners) I saw one and thought how the hell can i hit that (high roller near the car park)

Geoff talked us through it and I hit every one!

Half hour later without the instructor next to me I missed every one! Lol
