Woodcock-Snipe shooting 16th -17th January 2013

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

After the very succefull 2 days that we had in North Wales, shooting woodcock-snipe, I'm organizing another 2 days for the end of the season.

The dates are:

16 January 2013

17 January 2013

Everything will be organized the same way like the last 2 days that we had, £100 per day, mid morning refreshment and pub lunch included.

Its a a good day out and reasonably cheap day per gun, compared to other places that organize woodcock shooting, the day normally its planned as follow: meet at 9am, to be on shooting land by 9.30am, number of guns allowed its normally 6 per day, we take turns in walking, normally 2 walk with the dogs and the others stand in points that keeper says its the best. Refreshments half way thruw the morning and lunch included in the price.

Bags: that is difficult to say, this year we shot 18 woodcocks 3 snipes 8 pheasants in a day, missing loads of birds , as you know these birds are not relesed, they migrate from russia norway and so on, this year on the second day was the best shooting we ever had, missed several that went up with the dogs and I think the guns where getting used to the way the birds were flying, if there is not many wild birds normally the game keeper decided to take us on his grounds where they keep pheasants/partridges. Personally I think that 1 woodcock its worth ten phesants because of the difficulty in shooting them.

The Challenge its the Snipe, its the most difficult bird to shoot, its unbelivable how fast it can fly and the way that it fly, the first time that I shot one...after many many attempts...I was well chuffed and keepers and beaters made it feel special.

I personally think that for £100 per day its very good, especially if you check the current prices on this site, theres a bloke asking £350 per gun for a 100 birds driven shooting and that is average...but you shoot on pheasants and I don't find them a good sport at all.

How many cartdriges to take...I normally take 2 boxes of very good n6 loads for woodcock and the pheasants and some black gold n7 for the snipe

If you want to have a chat about it you can phone me on 07795280779

Please PM as soon as you can, I have already booked 3 guns in.

I had a terrific day with the lads over in wales, it was a bit dissapointing that Mark was let down at the very last min some guns but thats their loss.

Plenty of sporting birds to go at and we all had plenty of shooting, i shot testing snipe woodcock and pheasant through out the day and it was certainly worth the trip from yorkshire.

Our host Mark and the keeper looked after us well the company was great, the carvery at a local pub was just what the doctor ordered and if i got chance to go again nxt season i would jump at it. df

Ty Double Four, it was a great pleasure and great company to have you on the day, very happy that you enjoyed

Great day, between 10 and 30 snipe in every bog along with a handful of woodcock. Short of guns so a lot got away on unguarded flanks.

Had to Miss a drive as we were late starting due to waiting for lee + 2, where was he ? Where was his +2?

Mr. Scolopax, again it was great shooting toghether for the day....just don't tell how many I missed....lol

Mr. Lee- Stround, lets say that you were unfortunate, but you should have been in front of my house at 5.15 am, and you were not, I phoned at 5.25 am....you said not far away filling up the car...I'll be 10 min late...fair enough, I phoned you back at 5.45 am...you told me..I'm 5 min away....at 6.03 I had enough of waiting for you and left...knewing that at that point I was going to be very late and couldn't meet the guests, then you phoned me at 6.05am telling me that you broked down 5 minutes away from my house, I understand that your car can break down....BUT....if you would have been on time I could have picked you up or sorted sommething out. I'm not having a go at you Lee, but can you see what is wrong here?

I buy the days from the estate and I don't make any profit...I just want people like minded shooting woodcock and snipe with me at a reasonable cost, because of you been late, I couldn't do certain old style traditions...that I like to do with the guest...meet and greet and been 3 guns less...makes the shooting a little more tricky. Then the financial aspect....you asked very politely for your deposit back, that unfortunally can't be done....but I didn't ask you for the £150 that we lost because you and your friends couldn't come and pay for the day.

I will put it down as unfortunate and in the experience bag

OK.....the bags for the 2 days:

1st Day: I'm not going to mention names....we know that someone with some excellent shooting skills and a true gentleman, on the day spanked our bums by not missing anything with that magnificient gun of his

8 Woodcocks, 7 Snipes, 6 Pheasant

2nd Day: Again no name mentioning...lol, but we managed to catch up ...lol

12 Woodcocks, 3 Snipes, 7 Pheasants

Some very good bags, especially for the type of shooting and very challenging and sporting birds..... NO Scolopax....you can't still not say about the miss.....lol.

I would like to thank you all, for making the days really enjoyable, great company and memorable
