Two less foxes...

Despite conditions better suited to a hovercraft than a quad bike, as well as terrible visibility due to thick fog, I stuck to my intended plan of going foxing on our estate. The fog didn't lift until about half ten, and we were on a midnight curfew for running the quad but still managed to bag two. Big dog fox, and a vixen that must have been one of this years batch. The vixen came steaming round us in an arc of about 150 yds radius to try and get our wind, once she stopped to reasses the situation she crumpled on the spot. The dog was a little higher up the same field, but was quite wary and would not come closer than about 200 yds even though he was interested in the call. After moving the quad to get a food bit of ground behind him for a safe backstop he went the same way as the vixen.

Suffice to say, every fox shot at this time of year means potentially less cubs in spring. Taking out a dog and vixen now is probably worth another four come summer. Shoot captain should be pleased although I can't wait for some good cold frosts to firm the ground up - we've not managed to get about with the vehicle at all so far so we've got a game of catch up to play.
