People will love them, or they will hate them. I have one, i keep it clean and it works fine, fully recommend (especially for the price).

As above I had one,may have been lucky but it gave no bother & even had a nice trigger! Only parted with it because I prefer a non-ejector O/U : too much bother finding ejected carts in nettle beds.

Do you think a 3" or a 3 1/2" would be the better option?

Unless you have the need to use 3 1/2" cartrides the 3" version is better if you want to shoot clays as well, because as mentioned above the 3 1/2" prefers heavier load cartridges. 70 mm length cartrides are the best to use, though I put 250 67 mm cartrisdes through mine and had 1 jam.

I've owned two hatsan semi's and now got a hatsan pump, I've never had any issues with them other than the odd jam on short cartridges but as everyone has said use 67/70mm shells and you'll be fine.

I'd take a look at the field hunter pump actions not sure if they do them in 31/2" but if they do it would solve the issue of using short shells.

Gun.

I own several top named shotguns ....including a Browning Fusion evolve elite. ...Guess which one I love most.....Your right ... My Escort ....Drop it in mud no problem...wash it out... clean and oil it, and away we go again. Parts when ..and if required readily availible and cheap.

I've never had one but I know some one who has one and loves his the old guns get a bit of a slating but when I was last at the gun shop he had some new ones in and he said to me that hatsan have changed all the internals there is no o ring any more so it might be worth a look at I've read a lot of reviews on this gun and everyone says how accurate it is for the price
