Luckyshot
Had this in my garden a couple of times this week. Christmas day it sat there for 3 hours in an old oak tree.

Tug
Ring but no jesses. That's either escaped whilst put up in mews for moult, or it's been turfed loose deliberately (curse of the Harris, it's a beginners bird and many lose interest in falconry or want something flashier). It is possible to recover them, wherabouts are you?
Frenchieboy
It is possible to recover them and the ring is most likely to be an IBR ring through which the original owner could be traced. It is quite possible that the owner was flying it a little overweight and the bird decided to do it's own thing so not necessarily discarded as unwanted or whatever. I had this a couple of years ago on one of my permissions with a huge European Eagle Owl that was flying free. I managed to get it "On the fist" but did not have a transporting box handy so I can tell you that trying to drive a Frontera with a big Eagle owl with a wingspan that was as wide as the windscreen (Unteathered) is no easy task and something I would not want to do too often! The bird was returned to it's rightful owner and a reward for its return was given to a charity! Edit: If the bird is still in the area a small rabbit should entice it down, as long as it hasn't been feeding on any local moggies! If you intend to try to capture it please make sure that you have some good strong leather gloves or a gauntlet, Harris Hawks have an incredibly strong grip with their tallons and can cause quite a severe injury if not handled correctly! Maybe the best plan would be to try to find an experienced BOP handler in your area. Edited January 3, 2013 by Frenchieboy
