HotShot!
Been asked by a friend to start up this topic. Is there anyone knows of some good goose shooting in Orkney. Always wanted to go and wanted it to be a trip to remember ! Any links to websites would be great aswell. Thanks very much. HotShot!
russdy
Think theres 2 company types that work up there mate both english lads i think. If you look up orkney goose hunts or orkney goose holidays on google youl find them both there.

Spaniel
info@orkneyshootingholidays.com went with Rob back in Nov, a great bloke and works hard to ensure that you have some good shooting we are planning on going back again in Nov Bag limits of 10 geese per flight each, which is a good thing we had 4 morning flights on stubble 2 evening on the foreshore 2 evenings on some splashes i would say 3 days shooting is enough and this is what we are going for this year Between us ( 2of us) we had 69 geese and i think 19 ducks, all breasted just for ease of transporting etc Accomm was great, fully central heated next door to rob I think the ferry was a couple of hundred pounds, and travelling back to bristol took about 10 hrs

Spaniel
but dont forget this isnt true wildfowling as i know it, it is crop protection for the farmers up there, just like woodies down here But i guess if you wanted to stop below the bag limit then there would not be a problem Cheers Ian Edited January 4, 2013 by Spaniel
ayano3
When I first read the bit about bag limits I shared Scolopax's thoughts. I was thinking more like 4 per flight maybe. But...if this is done for crop protection in the true sense of the word and its justifiable then its fair play to anyone wanting to do this. Its something I have never done and have stuck to the foreshore, the foreshore to me is still special. Maybe one day I will decoy geese but I cant seem to appreciate that I would be shooting them in this way. Maybe I should book in and try it for myself. It seems a very good and varied package. These thought are my personal ones only and I would never suggest anyone decoying geese (bag limit or not) is wrong to do this in any way. big bad lindz
I had a great 4 flights with Rob from Orkney Shooting Holidays in late September. I did my own accommodation but had a great time with Rob. He will if asked do both decoying and foreshore shooting and has a good number of flight ponds and splashes for the duck. Ferry prices are bit cheaper from the Gills Bay ferry port. Depending on how busy and arranged before you travel he may also collect you from the ferry if you dont take your car over or the airport if you fly. He can also arrange the hire of shotguns if you dont want the hassel. Drop him an email to let him know what you are looking for. I think that he is fully booked for the rest of this season though. I do shoot the foreshore & decoying and both have there good & bad points and I enjoy both aspects so dont be put off with decoying. I know that there a lot of people who shoot fowl who feel the same but there are also the pureists who will only shoot on the shore or salt marshes BBL Edited January 4, 2013 by big bad lindz
HotShot!
Thanks for that. Fancied doing a bit of both. Foreshore and decoying. Toying with the idea of flying but dad is keen to drive due to the hassle of transporting guns.
Spaniel
I have to say i do agree with you both, the two i took on the foreshore was the rememable shots for me...sat out on the foreshore on an evening, listening to the geese and watching them in the distance was unforgetable...this is my passion when it comes to shooting. I had never done any type of goose shooting over stubble and i had never done any shooting over flight ponds before, so all new to me, but i enjoyed the experience and i have a few breasted geese and ducks in the freezer which taste great slow cooked Cheers Ian
ayano3
I think we could say this is the difference between wildfowling and goose shooting. Well done Ian, it sounds like you had a great time. Have you seen off all the goose breast yet :-)
