-Mongrel-
...with the tape on the inside of the lens I can wipe rain off the outside no problem. D'oh!!! That is SO obvious! Why the Hell didn't I think of that before? Ta.
-Mongrel-
You look less of an oddball if you just close your left eye.......... I do !! But you lose a lot of your peripheral vision and distance judgement capability. With a spot, you look either side and under it and it's only when you come on target and put your cheek tight onto trhe stock that it comes into effect. Personally I find that closing one eye makes me squint the other eye slightly which is just unsettling enough to compromise my concentration. Each to their own of course, but it seems to be my best solution.
Royboy
I suffered left eye dominance coming back to shot gun shooting after a 20 year lay off. So I tried these and after 6 months don't need them anymore. I know the scotch tape trick works the same but didn't find that out 'till afterwards. http://www.shotspot.co.uk/ Definately worth a look. Are these thing better than tape ? Can you see the patch on your glasses ? I dont want to waste £18 if there the same as tape thats all ! dog tired
Ive been experementing this week with tape etc and have found that a small thin blob of clear nail varnish on the left lens of my shooting glasses is perfect. I hope this helps others.

dog tired
I see your point but i only wear the glasses when shooting, why would i want to remove it ?
-Mongrel-
Not so much remove it as move it, if maybe you put on/lose some weight or maybe buy a nother gun and your set up alters a little?

SakoQuad
Another trick is to use a piece of clingfilm on the left lens. Like the Scotch tape it lets light through and doesn't constantly distract but blurs the picture of the bead for the left eye enough to force right eye to take over. webber
The same NO. You're only at Chorley. PM me, make arrangements to bring your gun to my works and we can try a number of different sights with no obligation. If your gun is 12 bore I also have a laser aid. I'm out with the syndicate this Saturday. webber

Chris Bb
Are these thing better than tape ? Can you see the patch on your glasses ? I dont want to waste £18 if there the same as tape thats all ! Tape works for me, I use that "Magic Tape" that you can write on, it's slightly opaque. Stick a small circle of it on the outside of the lens until it exactly obscures the muzzle from the left eye, peripheral vision is unaffected, take your time doing this and repeatedly remount your gun. Once the exact spot is found then stick a circle on the inside of the lens and remove the one from the outside, the circle only needs to be about 7mm across to do its job. Yes, it's visible to others at close range but, so what?

Elmer Fudd.
Are these thing better than tape ? Can you see the patch on your glasses ? I dont want to waste £18 if there the same as tape thats all ! They are optical foil (whatever that is) and come in two different sizes and strengths if my memory serves me. Depending on the actual size of your glasses (I've got aviator style prescription glasses), you shouldn't be able to see the foil in normal use. otherwayup
No, the exact opposite actually. If you used sellotape you'd see through it. You could use any solid tape but I find the scotch tape is less intrusive in my vision as it still lets some light through. I don't actually notice it when shooting, whereas with a black tape I was forever noticing it. Pic attached shows the basic set up, although the eagle eyed will notice that I haven't actually peeled the top edge of the triangle away! I do exactly the same as this on driven game. It is so quick and easy I remove it after each drive and just put a new piece on as required. Theoretical issue might be on a dead straight incoming bird. After pulling through, the barrel would completely obscure the bird, so seeing the lead would be impossible. I can't remember this actually happening as I don't shoot that much, but I guess it could. thepasty
Yesterday I found that if I blink my left eye as I bring the gun up the right eye will take over for a while (enough to take the shot), I also found that if I squint the left eye very slightly the right eye will take over also.. After an afternoon of doing it it become nature and instinctive. Might be worth a go for some of you chaps. I often do a "dry" run closing my left eye and looking down the rib with my right eye. I then lower the gun, call for the clay and remount and shoot keeping both eyes open. It's as if the dry run reminds my tardy brain what it's supposed to be doing!!
