Just had a quick read back through some of the posts, bit of a trip down memory lane, Pete in Alvin street, great place when you either knew the chap or got him on a good day. Fletchers, now that goes back a bit, remember John, the young lad, he was my ex brother in law. When Fletchers went down the pan the lad went into computers and made a small fortune. I mentioned Allsports because it just may save someone being stitched up. Ron made is pennies from accountancy and the shop is now basically a hobby, the man is a patronising old *** and I laid trust in him like many others.A mate was given a half decent AYA, his first gun, he took it to Allsports and Ron told him was dangerous and had a badly pitted bore and offered free distruction. Me old mate told the story to the chap who gave him the gun and the bloke nearly fell over backwards, nowt wrong with it. Some will read this and say its out of order naming and shaming an RFD as times are tough etc, well things have changed and new shops are offering a much better service. Timmy Shale in Westgate street for one, County sports I think he calls himself or Rob at R&B sporting in Ross on Wye.

Certainly agree that Tim (Countryman Sports) in Westgate Street offers a MUCH better service! The sad truth is though that it would be well nigh impossible not to!

Doesnt mean a gun that the plug does not pass through is in proof though......which is why it is not a good test.

Its a bit like "It fits where it touches!" I have seen a gun that had the most superbly placed "dot" about 7" from the breach made by a very sharp steel point - the idea being that it would fool a plug gauge test!

Just to put things into context a little. Its actually very very rare to find a shotgun thats out of proof these days.

If you look in/at the big auction room gun catalogues there are many "marginally in proof" and there are a surprisingly large around. If the barrels are clean and pit free an old well made gun, legally sold and in - proof will out live most of us!

Well done to all that have named the shop in question-we all have our various opinions and often enter heated debates to back them up but when a member gets terrible service like this we can at least unite and benefit from it as well as,hopefully, hitting the guilty party in the wallet.I will not deal with them.
