Dannyboy220
I didn't think you were allowed to release grey squirrels if they were trapped or whatever. As they are non native
Frenchieboy
How rediculous,I suspect that there are hundreds of us on here that could have saved the taxpayers a lot of money with just 1 air rifle pellet, after all Grey Squirrels are legally classed as vermin. Guest cookoff013
how many houses burned down during this rescue project? how many firefighters does it take to rescue a sqizz? what were the health and safety implications?
willks84
"We sent the appropriate response to that for a risk to life because we believed members of the public were trying to enter the water." Is that not what fire fighters are paid (not enough) to do?
evo
i thought you where paid to fight fires as you name suggests, bit silly sending numerous men tho and vehicles, would of been cheaper to send a special
four-wheel-drive
well as I see it it gives them something to do instead of watching TV most of the day.

archiebald
Cost a few quid to keep it for the rest of its life, as it cant be released by law?

willks84
i thought you where paid to fight fires as you name suggests, bit silly sending numerous men tho and vehicles, would of been cheaper to send a special so if one of ur family fell in (god forbid) while looking what was going on would it not be fire crews who would rescue him/her??? Very narrow minded thing to say I think

willks84
What line of work are u in "4 wheel drive"? Just out of interest? I'm not a fire fighter but my father has served for 30 years
henry d
Those days are long gone... Lol, are they! Yes they are, to get the required amount of "Home Fire Safety" visits (a requirement from the gov) in there is little time for anything else let alone hot fire training, pump drills, ladder drills, swift water rescue, RTC training..... do I need to go on? Dougy
this rescue would have been used as a training exercise and nothing more. It is one job i could not do ever, for any amount of money, some of the shocking scenes some of those people see would turn most of your guts inside out. Swings and roundabouts, come to mind on this job mentioned.

Is that not what fire fighters are paid (not enough) to do? second comment ok firstly i,m not shallow minded, sorry, but to send a couple of teams does seem a bit overkill and secondly you stated the above "WE SENT" so if your not a firefighter then why would you say "WE SENT" something not quite right there,or is it you just want to be like daddy and thirdly my family would not be daft enough to attempt to try and save a tree rats cos they have seen what i do to them

I'm not a fire fighter but my father has served for 30 years Do not get so up tight it was just a joke I am sure that they would only do rescue a small wild animals like that if they had nothing more sirious to be doing and they would use it as a training exercise and as you are so interested I have done lots of different jobs in my time but I am now retired. Asa Bear
It costs nothing extra (other than the fuel used) to send 30 appliances! Firefighters are salaried so unless they were retained cost of exercise was minimal. For an incident like this all machines would have been available if something serious arose. It's amazing the danger some people will put themselves in to "help" an animal. I have had to "rescue" vermin myself. Recently I had to untangle a feral from netting on a roof with members of the public watching. If they weren't I would have necked it. The 2 little dashes mean open quote! Thus quoting what was wrote in the news letter! And as for the "(open quote) or is it just cos u want to be like daddy" quote my father has pulled family's from burning buildings, cut children from wreckages, pulled ppl from frozen lakes, and even rescued a cat from a tree! I'm sure there's lots of ppl who want to be like my "(open quote) daddy". But thanks anyway for another NARROW minded comment!
