Mikaveli
It's basically just timed, (usually) multi-target shooting. A match, competition or practice might consist of several knock-down steel plates, sometimes clay targets (static / on the ground or launched) and paper targets for slugs etc. You walk (or run) along a very short course between firing points, at each point there'll be a number of targets - maybe 1, maybe 7 etc. There'll often be 'no shoot' targets in a bright / different colour, which you must avoid. This means you may need to fire from a less natural position. Maybe laying down, kneeling or from your other shoulder. You're shadowed by an RCO / official for safety and scoring etc. It's good fun. Find your local gun club and ask if the do PSG / practical shotgun - doesn't necessarily need to be UKPSA affiliated. Cost wise, it's not usually too bad. You'll burn through maybe 200 / 250 carts in a morning, but as most of the targets are reusable, that's really the only cost. Ends up cheaper than doing a round of 100 clays. Breastman
Where in the 'North-west' are you? If you're near Carlisle there are regular PSG matches just outside Newby East (opposite Carlisle airport) which i go to. Further down the country Rossendale Fusiliers club 'near' Manchester also does it. Contact UKPSA for Carlisle and F4i for Rossendale

Breastman
I didn't know that! Have always fancied a look see at 'practical' to see if it floats my boat.Carlisle is less than an hour away from me. An hour in which direction? An hour to the East would put you near Pittington where my club does a monthly practice shoot, an hour North would put you near Crocketford that also host PSG matches and an hour South would put you not far from Rossendale and Diggle, spoilt for choice on the West side! Any clubs near Norfolk? I'm not aware of any, theres a real lack of clubs in the East. Email UKPSA and F4i, someone there will be able to point you to the closest I'll look into the Manchester and Rossendale clubs lets hope they open on a Tuesday Some aspect of the club may be open then but i seriously doubt any PSG matches would be on then. Where can i find one of those double cart holders on the front of the loading gate. 'merica http://3gungear.core...d-Carrier-c26/ They ship direct to the UK but they charge $15 IIRC, so it might be worth looking at some of the other stuff to make the order worth while Edited January 14, 2013 by Breastman

neil smith
As Chaos says four4islands now offers the best PSG matches in the UK. This is because they have access to some of the best PSG ranges in the UK including some events now at Bisley. They have been successful because they promote safe but fun events & are less controlling than the so called National governing body of practical shooting. four4islands also have an open forum full of practical shooting information & its free http://four4islands.org/forum/ And also a facebook page for the latest up to date info... http://facebook.com/pages/Four4islands/104893726268423?ref=hl Good luck & hope to see you on the range sometime.
