skabo1
Ladies and Gents, I can tell from some of the good advice given in this forum that we have some shooters of considerable knowledge and ability and if I may I’d like to tap into pool of knowledge by posing a genuine question: - I am most likely to screw up a stand (sporting) when I encounter long crossers. Although they are my favourite targets I find it difficult to establish if I am ahead or behind the target when I miss, I shoot maintained lead on these birds. As is normal I often get a chorus of, you’re over, you’re under and you’re in front, worryingly sometimes all at the same time. I can get a supply of tracer shells but the question is could these be used to improve my perception of what is required in terms of forward allowance and consequently where I am going wrong? Is magnesium ballistically close enough to lead to accurately paint a picture? Please ignore the fire hazard on this occasion, I am aware of it. T.C.
Tracer shells will not help you with this problem. Go and get a lesson from a good coach.
100milesaway
Don't listen to what anyone tells you unless they are looking straight down your shooting shoulder.,this is the same for someone watching where a tracer goes. You would find it extreemly difficult to watch your own tracer.. from Auntie.
TIGHTCHOKE
The TRACER element is within the wad and NOT in the pattern. Very entertaining for those watching but not much use to correct the problem you are suffering from I'm afraid! As suggested already, go looking for a good coach and listen to what he tells you. Good luck
Guest cookoff013
on the olympics, they did have slowmo shots on trap, you could see the shot disrupt the air, you just didnt see shot or pattern. i`d say thats probly out of the realm of everyday shooting. figgy
Have a lesson or just shoot the long clay stand and start at a couple of foot lead and increase till you hit it,but look to see if its dropping or rising as I have a habit of swinging through and going over it as it drops off behind the gun. Not allowing for it. Figgy
skabo1
Thanks for the replies, sounds like there's no easy answer, if the indicator is in the wad then I'd have to agree it is of very little use, looks like a couple of lessons, Thanks again, S
BerettaEELL
Tracer shells, are we going to war Captain Mainwaring
skabo1
If I'm invaded by long crossers then I'm doomed, Mr Mainwaring, doomed. Edited February 15, 2013 by skabo1

BerettaEELL
Yep, I think a lesson would be your best bet. Let us know on this thread how you got on?
HDAV
on the olympics, they did have slowmo shots on trap, you could see the shot disrupt the air, you just didnt see shot or pattern. i`d say thats probly out of the realm of everyday shooting. Want to see the pattern http://tru-shot.com/ is the answer........Also shows you lead you gave the bird at the time of pulling trigger. A coach is what you need and a coach with video analysis may help you understand more. Edited February 16, 2013 by HDAV
skabo1
That is an incredible bit of video HDAV, so much for the 8 foot shot string, that was a tight pattern. I had a lot of success on the crossers today. I have a load of bad habits which I am addressing but I dare only sort one at a time or I will never know what is working. I just know if I go to a coach at the moment he or she will take me back to basics, because of all the bad habits of course so I'll sort a few of them myself in fact most of them are just plain laziness. I have watched the slo-mo of Kim Rhode shooting stand 4 and was surprised at how little the shot had opened, plenty of food for thought, thanks lads Edited February 16, 2013 by skabo1
