Sheldon Cooper
Just been out picking up dead chickens. Fox has been twice this week and killed the lot. That's what happens when you leave them out or forget to shut them up. Think it's Deffo time to get a fox gun. Prob a hornet if I ever sell the hmr. Sheldon Cooper
Hmr,50-75yrds will stop a Fox. Yes I am 100% sure it would but I don't have it on my ticket and don't think Lancashire would let me. Funny thing is tho a .22 would be ideal because the shot would be near houses and at close range
Dirty Harry
Or you could just shut the chickens in at night. If you can't even do that get a solar powered pop hole. It will open and close automatically. Expensive but cheaper than buying chickens all the time..
swiss.tony
you have vermin on your ticket and fox is vermin under 100 yrds will drop fox no bother with a head shot
Walker56
I also keep chickens , the fact that the fox has been back twice suggests that there is an easy meal at your place so why not use one of the dead carcasses as bait then either trap or shoot the ******* . Happy hunting.
zipdog
Basc have claimed to fight any members battle who get in trouble by the police for shooting a fox when they only have vermin on their ticket
al4x
you have vermin on your ticket and fox is vermin under 100 yrds will drop fox no bother with a head shot Exactly if its near houses its the perfect tool from an upstairs window. As said basc will back you up not that you would ever need it. Though fencing them in and shutting the door would seem simpler
worthy130
Basc have claimed to fight any members battle who get in trouble by the police for shooting a fox when they only have vermin on their ticket Its all well and good them saying they will 'Battle' for us, but would they win? BIG gamble of your licence. On my licence it says Vermin AND Fox.
silver pigeon 3
Simple answer is shut them up, but invest in a trap and bait with dead chickens then shoot with shotgun.

Funny thing is tho a .22 would be ideal because the shot would be near houses and at close range They will allow a .22WMR to be conditioned for Fox! A good cage trap might be cheaper and will work 24/7 for you! Edited February 19, 2013 by Frenchieboy

In reality no one has tested it and its highly unlikely to be tested
Sheldon Cooper
Yes the obvious thing is to shut them up at nite but to be fair no one is perfect and these things are easy to slip your mind at the end of the day ecspecial when days are getting longer and we don't shut them up at 4.30 when we finish work because its going dark. Any way a neighbour has a fox trap so getting that today. If I did shoot it with the hmr no one would be any wiser but it is a risk at then end of the day and once your tickets gone its gone. Still want to sell the hmr for a rifle that I can shoot "fox" and vermin with. I don't want a 22 mag as I don't think you would gain much over the hmr. I don't want to keep two rimfires and say a 223 for the cost of tree rifles. So I think that leaves me with the .22lr / hornet then I have all angles coverd. I would prefer the 22 And a 223 but I don't think I would be aloud virmin on that rifle. Strange world we live in.
al4x
There shouldn't be a problem with vermin on a .223 I've got it on everything including a .243 actually none of my conditions are attached to specific rifles so I just get pests and deer covers most things

Just 22 mag 17&22 hornets and 17 remington. Seems dum to me as I read that the 17 rem with 30gr bullets can produce 1000fpe which must be up there with 222/223 Edited February 20, 2013 by Sheldon Cooper
