Yeah we had rogue wilder beast sweeping majestically across the village green, dropped it with my 4.10 @ 80yds from a moving car...God shooting with the foxes, I did 11 @ 451yds..

Thats a big gun 4.10 of an inch that must hurt shooting that ?

We used to have a member ages ago who would regularly boast of shooting large bags of pigeons and large hauls of rabbits, and who would post up a pic showing about 40 birds and claim that it was "part of a 300 bird bag", so yes, on the balance of probability I would say it does happen.

He also did himself no favours by coming across as a big head and know it all. Anyway, long story short, after he got turfed off here people on other forums got wind of his various claims not stacking up and he ended up looking very silly indeed.

For the record, I am NOT referring to the lad who put up old pics on here claiming they were new. He at least held his hands up when confronted.

I suspect there are some on here who stretch the truth a bit , you find them in all walks of life.....

But the guys on here who post good bags regulary ... PC, Motty etc. Have done the leg work , put the mileage in, found the right contacts and go often enough to get the right conditions on the right day..... the fact that they may be good shots and have good field craft probably also helps :good:

I'm sure the majority on here tell it straight.... and as such it should help us all, newbies included, to improve and learn....

Dave

Dunno do the newbies get an invite to do nodge with PC, Motty etc, getting out there in the field showing them fieldcraft, you only get a jist on internet....

Don't get me wrong

Don't get me wrong but, I didn't come on here to expose anyone, but if the hotshot big bag shooters spent as much time inviting novices to spend a day with them to learn some fieldcraft, as they did posting pics, not a pop just a thought, look at the posts...

I have read loads of threads on here showing some well respected shooters taking out Newbies and showing them the ropes.

This happened to me with a PW member after my Eye operation, he learned me to shoot again.

We do have those who 'pay it back' while others think they are mugs for wasting their valuable time on those who should learn it the hard way.

At the end of the day, I always thank those that helped me and I have alot to pay back.

I agree if more people helped new shooters we would have more repect as a sport...to those who have helped anyone and taken them out with you 'You have my utmost respect & can call yourself a Shooter'

your dead right its not a competion, but it is a shooting forum, so if members want to share a pic of there day out so be it, and when they do they give an insight to the day to show how they made a bag and went about it

don,t forget some farmers don,t lke shooters taking people along with them, ie..under strict intructions that you and only you can shoot the land

I think your honesty is what we need, sure people have the Ego thing going on...you find these in every sport.

The true shooters as I call them see this site for what it is, a place to meet other like minded shooters to themselves.

We had a bloke in The Royal Marines who had every Butlins badge ever made in his collection....and never ever been.

Don't try to make sense of it all

They don't have to shoot but if they are keen, they will be more than happy tag along to do the field craft/ decoys / hides etc

Think most are honest.

I've been shooting and fishing in one form or another since a small child always liked shooting more.

Used to go air rifle shooting rabbits and pigeons in trees that often i very rarely missed and in the end gave it up as got sick of it,when was not on rabbits id be on targets. But somedays the bunnies are there next maybe not, bag sizes are not a mark of your shooting ability per se.

With a shotgun sometimes I'm quite good and don't seem to miss much at all, both game and clays, but the flip side is I can be carp and wonder what the heck I'm doing, cows rear and banjo

Just getting out there is the most enjoyable part, getting some shooting and bagging them is a bonus,I think that's why when people do have a good day they take a pic and tell all about it.

It's my first full season Wildfowling and blanking is part of it,same with all game shooting.

The field craft can be learned, plenty of good advice in the relevant sections and videos online for novices.

I think Nortern Monkey thought he would find more people like you on her Figgy.

Bloke is just speaking how it is, and that is not always the best idea...people get defensive and think you are having a go at them.

I know he is not talking about me or you, but get what he means.

My all time shooting hero taught me about all I know, in his own time.

It's time for us to forget ours ego's and remember what this sport is all about.

I suspect the comment about the decimal was a light hearted one, made in much the same spirit as when you pulled a member up on their spelling a couple of posts later. There was certainly no need to call brian28 a geek for it.

There is no point in highlighting what you perceive to be other people's egos and then throwing a track because someone dared make a joke on your thread - a pretty egotistical line to take in itself. Stay by all means, but a thick skin and not taking yourself too seriously are keys to taking part in forums such as this.

Er Mr moderator I only expressed a thought & was met by some very defensive vibes, I have no view on anyone displaying piccys on this site, I was only making an ob that sometimes things aren't always what they seem, perhaps if I got all the pigeons I've shot over the last month out of my freezer & posted a piccy I would receive approval...... That wasn't aimed at anybody but I'll get some defensive posts anyway..

The spelling police are always about and most is in good humour.

It's when they start on your grammar and paragraphs the fun really starts.

Taking the Micky out of each other is part of the fun.

How north are you from Northern Monkey?
