Thanks for the replies fellas.

I spoke to a mate of mine earlier. He said he has a tub of Devcon and i can have some for nowt, so jobs a good-un!

Not so keen on his method of a release agent though. He said he just used liquid furniture wax which worked just fine.

What do you fellas recon? A tenner on a tin of spray release agent could save me a world of aggro!!??

I've used beeswax polish some swear by clear boot polish. whichever method put it on polish of and repeat I tend to do a least three coats. just so you don't miss anywhere.

most sporting rifles tend to balance between the hands till you stick a mod and bipod on then it's all front heavy. At the end of the day if it feels right it is right only you know.

Have you seen this http://www.6mmbr.com/pillarbedding.html

I follow this method with good results

Looks good so far if you want to take the marked bit out you can always add a bit of weight into the butt with lead in a hole under the recoil pad if needed.

Afterall a gun you really like is easier to shoot well.

Well bar bedding, (If i ever get round to it) the stock is finished.

It initially came out gloss, but as i prefer satin i used the "conditioner". Which is similar in feel to fine "T-cut" I then put several layers of wax over it and buffed it.

I'm well chuffed with the end result!

I'll take some pictures of it with the action in and post them when i get chance.

Thank's to the "non-haters" on here for your support. You know who you are :good:

Hi stranger - looks good !! Looking forward to seeing a photo of it assembled.

Trust your well as can be ?

Hi Norm,

Yea not too bad thanks. Hope you are well to?

Took a few photos today of the end result, bar any bedding.

I'll see what groups i get before i decide if i go ahead with it. If i still get sub .5" that'l do for me!

Incidently, I tried some 40 grain Hornady V-Max in the .204 last weekend, with standard stock. x5 shots of each load going up .5 grains at a time to the max (as per my Lee Modern reloading data) As seems to often be the case, the hotter loads were the best. 30 grains of Hodgdon BL-C(2) achieved .287" at 100 yards!! I was well chuffed!

Anyhow, here's a few pictures of the finished job....

Jam1e that looks a great job, bet it took a lot of time and effort but I'd be loads happier having a stock I worked on myself than an off the shelf job. Your time and effort has earned you a stunning one off stock well done, wish I could do something like that!

Cheers archiebald! :)

There wasn't a huge amount of work to be honest. Mainly due to an electric planer!

Although I did use a small block planer to finish the fiddly and fine planing.

Sanding was quite tedious, going down the grades. And what you think is a barely visible mark stands out like a jockey's balls when the finish starts going on! I'm quite pleased with the result. Although, I've not had chance to try it out as yet.

Good or bad, i'll post the results up when I've tested it out... :good:
