pigeon controller
We were totally rained off on Friday so Saturday morning at 08.00 I picked up DB in the pouring rain and we headed off to a clover field that I had seen on Thursday with a good number of birds feeding, when we arrived Zero not a bird in the trees or on the grass. So we headed to a seed bean field only to find six birds feeding and none joining. The decision was made to head for the rape, when we arrived there were about three hundred birds in the trees and they were playing follow the leader in the rain one went in and they all followed, gas gun fired and they all lift off. We could not ignore the amount of birds so we set up in the rain with a brolly lid to the hide, it was now 11.00 and the rain eased and the first birds came in sweet as a nut and we had six. then they just ignored us totally flying high over not even interested then vanished. I got in the Disco and went for a scout around, I covered approx eleven miles and could not find them at all I popped into the farm to ask the question " Has it been shot ? " answer "yes the Keeper and four beaters shot it Thursday from five hides" question " How did they do ? " answer " they only had about twenty birds" ROWLOCKS!!!!!!! I returned to the hide and DB had not had a shot so we packed up. It was now getting on and we had a look at some seeded wheat no birds till we arrived at a bean seed field with approx twenty birds on the deck and as we watched another ten came in. It was dry at this point and as we walked to the hide position the rain poured down. We set the hide up and the rain stopped it was now 15.15 and we had some good sport with the Pigeons, Crows and Jackdaws. at 17.30 DB went to shoot the wood for the roost and I had one crow while he was away I packed up at 18.00 and picked up twentyfive pigeon and eighteen crows and jackdaws. It was now raining again and I took a picture for the record in the rain as I had not carried my tripod. DB returned from the roost with one more bird. That was the end of the Wet Weekend. JDog
Your clothes and kit will take a week to dry out but I suspect that you think that your day out was worthwhile.

JDog
I did go and look today but there were very few about. They have yet to find the drillings sown on Thursday afternoon. All of the farm tracks were unpassable and the headlands were quagmires.

coyotemaster
Persistence is a virtue you are blessed with!! Good job. We used to hide in the hog shelters when it rained and pop the lids open when the birds came in. Still it was a muddy mess as I recall but we loved the chance to shoot.
