Half decent bag on rape

I went for a drive this afternoon to try and find some pigeons. After an hour, and a few farms later, i found plenty getting stuck in on the rape. There was a couple of hundred on the ground with more joining in smallish groups. So i decided it would be worthwhile setting up.

I have noticed over the last few days that the big flocks have broken up significantly, giving hope of some easier decoying to come. I know that many people have had a hard start to the year as far as decoying is concerned and as i've mentioned in a different thread, this has been one of my worst starts to the year ever.

So it was with relief that some pigeons came to my pattern of 20 flocked shells and magnet. I killed a few and then added a floater, 2 lander cradles and eventually a flapper to the pattern.

Mostly, the pigeons seemed to prefer the field behind me. I had to keep walking them off every time a couple of hundred gathered there, as every other following bird would go to them.

It was very satisfying shooting. I shot some lovely left and rights, some nice high ones and some 50 yard crossers. It was just nice to once again have some birds falling for the decoys and not just playing follow the leader.

After 3 hours of good sport i knew it was over. The pigeons started pouring on next door's rape. A little while later, well over a thousand were disturbed from there.

So here's to better things to come.

I ended with 34 and a feral.
