Guest rimotu66
I bought a 300 Disco as a do-er-uppa which has a vibration when accelerating and on deceleration, I noticed it when I test drove and thought 'easy fix, that will be the rear doughnut or UJ's' I had both props off today and the doughnut and UJ's are ok, I greased them up and refitted but the vibe is still there, not sure if its connected but the clutch feels heavy and is a bit noisy until I press the clutch pedal. Any thoughts please.
Browning 425 clay hunter
not sure if its connected but the clutch feels heavy and is a bit noisy until I press the clutch pedal. Any thoughts please. The noise sounds like your clutch release bearing has gone. Guest rimotu66
Release bearing yes I agree but that wouldnt cause the vibes would it. But flywheel?? Any more info, never heard of flywheel probs on 300 Disco's. Edited April 3, 2013 by rimotu66
jgguinness
I have a 300tdi. Mine makes a slight noise, noticeable on tickover when clutch s up, but goes when clutch is depressed. Done it for yonks, apparently it's a common fault but can't remember exactly what it is. Mine had a vibration, as you say, when accelerating and decelerating. I changed the doughnut but no joy. It turned out to be the hardy spicer on the front of the rear prop. Cheap fix and bingo sorted. Jonathan
Royboy
I cant see it being the flywheel on 300 tdi as they are solid not duel-mass. Also it would vibrate through cluth pedal. I would of defiantly put that down to prop shaft ! Maybe something to do with the handbrake drum ?? Edited April 3, 2013 by Royboy
neil w
Propshaft centre bearing maybe or a inbalance due to damage to the prop
Gilberts1989
Right, to solve the prop shaft problem for good you want to get hold of a 200tdi prop which has 2 UJ's on it. Do away with that crappy donut design. You will need to replace the flange on the diff to a 4 hole one. That set up will cost about £25 from the scrappy and you want have to mess about with that donut. The noise is the clutch release bearing rattling about. don't worry about it, I replaced my clutch and changed the bearing and it started rattling a week later. They always rattle. As for vibration is it front or back of the disco. Is it vibration or wobble? Have you checked wheel balance as rear unbalanced wheels cause vibration through the whole car. Check all the bushes on the radius/trailing arms and the pan hard rod Steve
aga man
Propshaft centre bearing maybe or a inbalance due to damage to the prop have to agree sounds like a propshaft out of balance or something
Guest rimotu66
Guys, thanks for the replys, have just re adjusted the handbrake and went for a run, noise still there, have just found out it vibrates at around 2500rpm when stood still in neutral, so its an engine vibe, any ideas? Guest rimotu66
Hello mate, have had a quick look at the mountings and they seem ok, had to leave it for now as am back on shift tomorrow and have other things to do. I am thinking of selling it as it is, Ive enough on fixing my trooper at the moment and could do with some cash back.
aga man
might be worth getting the compression tested, dodgy injector?. la bala might have touched on something with the flywheel? god knows mate. if you decide to keepit, i have a haynes manual for it. if you ever come over to hull your welcome to it Edited April 4, 2013 by aga man
la bala
actual engine imbalance sometimes points to flywheel or crankshaft.
Guest rimotu66
Thanks for the offer Aga but am thinking along the lines of la bala and I havnt got the time to start pulling engines out and it has a few other issues to sort, shame really as its a 98 with 108k on the clock and even better no sunroofs, might just leave it until I get the Trooper sorted and then have a go at it, weather will be better as well , have bought a Terrano to run about in for now, bloody drive looks like a 4x4 dealers
