Dead-Eyed Duck
The Subaru is 4WD and will give you about 47mpg all around, just over 50 on a run. It's a solid feeling car, unlike the Skoda which feels "tinny" in comparison. My pal bought a Skoda after years of VW ownership and realised why they were cheaper. Cannot agree with the comment about the Skoda - they are basically made in Czekoslovakia from VW/Audi parts. I had an Octavia 4 x 4 and that did over 120,000 miles with no issues whatsoever - most of the running gear was exactly the same as a friends Passat. Ditto my last company Yeti with 106,000 miles in just over 2 years. This is why I have just bought a new Yeti. I had 2 x Subaru Foresters, and they guzzled petrol - no idea how the diesels perform. One major worry about Subaru's is the lack of dealerships nowadays - there are less and less about.

Chris Bb
One major worry about Subaru's is the lack of dealerships nowadays - there are less and less about. Can't disagree with that one. My local dealership is now only a service centre, the nearest "full" dealership is now some 50 miles away. Having said that, it's now out of warranty so the local garage can service it. bobt
I have a Disco 4 v6 diesel two years old with 26000 miles on the clock, I drive to France my house is 740 miles each way and I get 30-32mpg and I drive on the cruise control at speeds of 60-80 mph. If your cruise runs between 60 to 80 it needs fixing should be a set speed. Edited April 11, 2013 by bobt
pimpkiller
the most efficient speed for mpg is usually just under 60mph (car dependant) if I remember right they used to say you increase fuel use by 25% by just going at 70mph
shakari
FWIW, I bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel a little while ago & it averages 8.4 km per litre on supermarket diesel & 8.8 km per litre on filling station diesel. I pay 1.34/litre at the supermarket & 1.40 at the filling station.
