For anyone watching video and going there, the NW 200 is in County Londonderry not Co antrim. I grew up in Coleraine on one of the tips of the triangular 11 mile circuit. one of my bil raced here for years and still(i think rides a classic bike on opening day). Both his sons were into racing as well and another bil was in his early career mechanic for yer maun Joey amongst others. Ive fond memories of NW 200 in the Agostini days. I live in scotland now.

To achieve anything in this game you must be prepared to dabble in the boundary of disaster. (Sterling Moss)

Met Richard Britton on 05 and Martin Finnegan 06 NW200. I was gutted for Britton (my fav rider ever) at the 05 TT, could've won but for a dodgy pit stop. Never seen anyone let it hang out as much as him on the next lap. Was really upset when I found out he had been killed, the same with Finnegan. Thats racing, and for me racing is life. One day your life is going to flash past your eyes, better make it a good watch.

Life, as they say, may begin at 30. But it doesn't really get interesting until around 150.

This is the remains of Chaz Davies' bike after practicing at Monza for this weekends WSBK races. Can't believe he walked away from it !!!

Probably thought it was beyond bothering to try bump starting? :)

Love it or hate it the experience of racing is incredible!! Trackdays give you a good buzz but actual racing is mind boggling. Never did race on the Island though, just all the UK circuits.

I'm sure he could have ridden it back to the pits if he had tried

Old rooster - What class did you ride in ? I know a couple of lads who used to ride in the 125 British supercup, one of them won the championship a few years ago.

F2 sidecars, all pretty manic stuff!

Jeez , I wouldn't like to try and manhandle one of those machines around , certainly not at the IOM.

Jock Taylor was one of the best people I ever watched driving a sidecar . Were you the driver or the monkey ??

Oi... my dad was a passenger... not a monkey... :hmm:

:) No offence intended . I think the passenger needs the agility of a monkey , and a strong nerve .

There's no way I'd be hanging out of a chair like they do , I reckon my arms would pump up after a lap.

Jock was a bit before my time but was one of the true gentlemen of the sport by all account, Rolf Biland was another legend with our very own Steve Webster a multiple world champion in more recent years that very few people will have even heard of. Tim Reeves is the current UK big hitter but a few other UK teams are also going well in it.

It was my outfit so I drove, had a variety of passengers including a woman reporter who came for a Wednesday test day at Mallory. Took her out for the first session and thought she was a tad sluggish, got back in and she'd stopped breathing, think it scared the excrement out of her, thankfully she was fine once we took her bash hat off and slapped her around a bit. Got her to try another session but she wasn't for moving about much, the snappers got a cracking shot of us coming out of Devils Elbow with the chair wheel about a foot in the air. Never did manage to get her to do a race (probably not a bad thing)

Looking at that picture again and considering it was at Monza, what you can see are what is left after the Italian fans have run off with as many of the bits as they could easily snaffle.

Great atmosphere at Monza, they sure know how to enjoy themselves out there. I recall watching Foggy do the double when I went over as a guest of Shell Oils, having won a caption competition in MCN, it was a bit like watching tennis at one point. Poor old Giancarlo Falappa was sitting right at the back of the stand, perched precariously on the scaffold pole and chatting up some rather attractive young ladies, as the bikes went by all eyes went forward, once they had passed they went back to watching the naughty old geezer who looked very likely to fall off the back of the stand.

Just down the road is the wonderful city of Milan, recommended bike trip for anybody seriously into it!

:lol: Good job , you got her breathing again, how would you explain that to the police ? About 30 years ago , my next door neighbour bought an outfit to race , he had never driven one before , he got it home and was all excited about trying it , so he got the young lad who was going to passenger for him to bump start it on the road , the engine fired up , the lad went to jump in the chair but missed and landed on his knees in the road , Glyn the driver, didn't realise he wasn't there until he came to the sharp left hander at the end of the road, and found he couldn't go round the corner , instead he went straight on and up the footpath  He's still racing now at the TT , so it obviously didn't put him off , the young lad soon retired though .

Had that happen at Oulton Park, It was push starts and I'd got my motor really sorted so it fired up clean first turn. Got away like a rocket but didn't do the usual glance over the shoulder to check the ballast. Into Cascades at a reasonable clip and I soon realised I was a tad light in that department. Managed to "tack" to a standstill just past the end of the Armco barrier so that was OK. Marshal came rushing over with a radio in his hand to tell me that my passenger was at the start line but was all right. "All right" says I, Just you wait till I get my hands on the little darlin!!!

Suicide boys.

Why? you could say that about everyone who crosses the road or drives a car above 30mph...

Nah, he's right JK and I say that as a biker and track rider. Don't get me wrong, I admire them immensely, but, road racing is the most extreme version of bike racing and for the real adrenaline junkies/nutters! Even the likes of Sheene wouldn't risk the roads. For the ultimate adrenaline rush I guess you have to flirt with paying the ultimate price more.

You only have to look at how many die racing roads versus how many die racing short tracks to see just how much more dangerous it is.

But Sheene was a soft shandy drinking southerner wasn't he.

Only one real response to this comment. T-wat.

That's like saying Rossi is rubbish because he's Italian, just nonsense.
