Your viewpoints don't upset me. It actually looks like you've upset yourself lol. Anybody can come on here and spit dribble about who done what, but that's how the topics get closed. Replying in a non antagonising manner may keep this topic open for others to express their opinions.

Im afraid youre attepmt at trying to patronise me just does not wash.

You are new to this forum and don't understand how it operates. We've covered these topics rather unsuccessfully in the past, resulting in topic closures. You will not succeed in starting an arguement here, so ease off the throttle lad.

Marty, we love you ex squaddies and all! I served nearly a third of a 23 year Army career in Northern Ireland, my son was born there and I still have many friends there, so though not a local I feel I've earned the right to have an opinion. Here's my take on some of the recent posts. Some young soldiers on check points DID abuse their position, either out of ignorance, lack of correct leadership or sadly in some cases, misguided retribution for killed or injured colleagues. They were a minority. Most I knew were professional, objective and smart enough to realise that abusing civilians would be the IRA's best recruiting sergeant, but as in any walk of life there are always a few idiots. Likewise, as much as I have very personal reasons to abhor the IRA, they didn't have a monopoly on murder. Many of the loyalist murder gangs committed horrendous atrocities too. Add a few rogue policemen and soldiers into the mix and I am deeply grateful that chapter of Northern Ireland's history is (for the most part bar a few dissident scumbags) consigned to history. Since my first tour in 1986, NI has changed out of all recognition and very much for the better. Long may it continue. As I said in an earlier post, my own preference would be for you guys to stay part of the UK because you enrich the union and make us so much more than the sum of our parts. But, it's not for me to decide, it's for the people who live there. So long as any decision is made at the ballot box, then I (and most people i suspect) will wish you well either as fellow UK citizens, or good neighbors.

Never presume you know what people think /do you could be very surprised at some people on these forums.

As i'm in a quoting mood, one more for you to ponder, that is if you want to spend time pondering.

We should learn to choose our words carefully, as we can hurt, and mislead others. Words...can't be taken back, once you give them away. Harsh words are like bullets: no matter what, they can still leave a painful injury. And sometimes, a sorry is not enough to heal the wounds you leave.

Very well said your a true gentleman that's easy to see. As I said earlier not all soldiers were bad, and as you said maybe some of the bad behaviour was down to the fact that a colleague had been killed, which to be honest is something I never really would of thought of before. I am just happy that my lads don't have to grow up in the same N. Ireland as I did, its so much better apart from the view who just have so much hate in them they just can't let it go. Being honest I never thought I would see a day were I could talk like this to A British Soldier and feel good about doing it. One thing for sure your always welcome over here, and my door Is open anytime you feel like a bit of a break away I mean that now ANYTIME.

I just say it how it is!

People who are against what im saying just dont like hearing it.

Not hard to tell who support the ira.

So because I don't agree with you I support the IRA. No point me trying to put you down as you have done it all by yourself. You really just can't hide your Hatred for my side of the population of the North and I would guess you'll never change.your comment on how the IRA were basically murdering animals, and that the Loyalists did some " SILLY " things to says it all. Murder is murder is murder no matter who pulls the Trigger, but no point going on Because there really is no point.

Marty,

Yes the uvf and lvf etc etc are bad, murderers, drug dealers etc etc but what im saying is that the ira are the number one for their terrorism acts!

Earlier you wer running down soldiers and justifying why people join the ira!

There is no justifacation to becoming a terrorist who murders innocent civillians!

I have no hatred for catholics and some of my best mates are catholics but I despise the ira, anyone who has anything to do with it or supports them!

I apologise for my comment re its not hard to tell who supports the ira. On reflection that is not what I meant and I apologise.

What I should have said is its not hard to tell who is from a republican background as they get their back up against me when I state facts about what the ira did and when I make supportive comments towards our British soldiers!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You have let yourself down in less than fifty posts on this forum. You need to remember that there is an eclectic mixture of people on this forum, not all will share your viewpoints. The better man would accept this and leave it as is. Showing just a bt of tolerance will allow for bridges to be built.
