It was badged up as an audit and I can only asume to cross-check their records with what I have previously disclosed given the ongoing requirement to update them when you purchase and sell. Not totally convinced that a distance audit of this nature has massive value as the best way of verifying accuracy of records is surely a home visit. It also didn't state how much time the force would then spend managing the returns rather than dealing with applications and variations, etc, but the pre-paid envelope was addressed to a different office than the firearms team. I would work on the basis that they're verifying our records as well as cheking on the quality of those retained on the police database.
