Early morning buck

I was out this morning at 4.15am and came across this spiker in some long vegetation. The only possible shot was a head shot looking straight at me ...........

I was on my sticks and at 70 yards very confident , I shot and to my amazement the buck didn't go down but just stood there :hmm:

I quickly chambered another round and waited for him to stop shaking his head and flicking his ears , this time I waited til he was facing broadside , this time no mistake and he went straight down...

On inspection of the buck I noticed that my 1st shot had gone slightly high and pierced his ear .........

Entry wound ....

You were lucky to get a second shot.

I suspect that the first shot not only went through his ear but looking at the photos it hit the base of his left antler. That would have given him something of an immediate headache and left him disorientated temporarily.
